"General Information for Preparing Proposal Budgets." UC Irvine Office of Research Home

Page, UCI Office of Research, Accessed 4 Feb. 2019

www.research.uci.edu/sponsored-projects/contracts-grants-admin/proposal-prep/budget-

general-info.html

In this article the several steps involved in how to prepare for a proposal budget are laid

out and explained in detail. The UCI Office of Research cites their own professors and student

accounts for experience on the subject of proposal budget making. The article thoroughly

explains each step in creating a budget from the definition to the documentation process in order

to accurately inform the reader on how to do so. The UCI Office of Research’s intent is to

showcase how the complexity of a proposal budget can be understood when broken down. This

information will be used when planning a proposal to the school board and/or school

administration. Following the steps provided by the article a budget will be created for new

tables at Poly High School.

Horrevorts, M., Johan, V. O., & Terpstra, P. (2018). Impact of cleanliness on the productivity of

employees. Facilities, 36(9), 442-459. doi:http://dx.doi.org/10.1108/F-02-2017-0018

Horrevorts’s journal documents the impact of cleanliness on the productivity on

employees. Horrevorts used an online survey and in-person questionnaire at five separate

organizations in the Netherlands to determine workers’ productivity in relation to how clean their

workspace was. It was found that employees tended to have far higher work satisfaction when

they found their working environments were clean. This research supports the argument that

students, like employees, would thrive in cleaner surroundings. The state of the current lunch

tables may reflect the rest of the school’s cleanliness as well and suggest students are not able to

work as efficiently as they might with a more hygienic environment.

Owens, Ben. "How to Make Meaningful Change in Our Schools." Teacher, 7 June 2017,

Accessed 5 Feb. 2019.

www.edweek.org/tm/articles/2017/06/07/how-to-make-meaningful-change-in-our.html.

Owens’s article addresses the difficulty in making change in schools and how to

effectively make changes that matter. Owens cites several authors such as John Hattie, and

professional research journals in their works exploring the frameworks of schools. Owens breaks

down each problem schools have when it comes to making change and suggests thorough

solutions. This article is helpful as it explains what is needed to make a difference in schools as

well as the challenges one may face when doing so. The information given will aid in making

changes to Poly’s lunch tables as well as assuring the changes are meaningful.

Procuta, Egle. "How to FUNDRAISE." Chatelaine, vol. 81, no. 8, 08, 2008, pp. 88-88,91.

ProQuest, https://search.proquest.com/docview/214076071?accountid=172748.

This article details the several steps involved in effective fundraising for a personal or

organizational purpose. Procuta cites her personal experience as well as community experience

of fundraising in her summary of how to fundraise well. Procuta suggests ways to organize and

promote a fundraiser as well as ideas on more efficient fundraising. This information is

particularly helpful as fundraising will be a major part of trying to get new tables at Poly. Money

for the new tables, as well as for cleaning supplies for the old tables, will be needed thus

funding is necessary.

Sweeten-Shults, Lana. "Dirty Schools Situation at a 'crisis Level?" Times Record News,

Accessed 5 Feb. 2019.

level-2616a799-97d4-1edc-e053-0100007f6478-360624451.html/

In this article, Sweeten-Shults reports the crisis that dirty public schools have become.

Sweeten-Shults references the local ISD reports of school inspections in Wichita Falls about the

unclean schools. The paper highlights how schools in America are understaffed with custodians

and how many custodians do lackluster work due to low pay. It also showcases how universal

the issue of unsanitary school conditions are. This information is valuable as it confirms other

schools have cleanliness issues just as Poly does. It can help identify why unclean school

environments are a problem and potentially how to help.
