Women Entrepreneurship is the process in which women initiate a business, gather all
resources, undertake risks, face challenges, provide employment to others and manage
the business independently. About 1/3rd of the entrepreneurs in the world are women
entrepreneurs.
There has been a change in the role of women due to growth in education, urbanization,
industrialization , awareness of domestic values and also due to available circumstances.
The following are the some of the industries promoted by the women Entrepreneurs.:
Papad making, Embroidery, agarbatti making, handicrafts, catering services including
fast food, snacks, tiffin services etc., grocery shops, pharmacy, Parlors, pickle
manufacturing etc.

Women Entrepreneur’ isa personwho acceptschallenging role to meet her personal/family


needsand willing to become economically independent.
Family/social value positive contribution is an inbuilt quality of entrepreneurial
women. Women Owned Enterprise and implication on economy. There is changeinthe social,
economic andpolitical environment with Entrepreneurial potentials of women and the role
and economic status in the society.
Skill, knowledge , attitude/ability in businessare the main reasons for women to emerge into
business ventures.
Growing media awareness leads to understanding SWOT in working environment.
Women Entrepreneurs are found indulged in every line of business.
The challenges and opportunities provided to the women of digital era are
growing rapidly that the job seekers are turning into job creators.
Flourishing as Fashion designers, interior decorators, architects, exporters,
publishers, garment manufacturers and still exploring new avenues of
economic participation.
As compared to western countries, despite majority of total population in
India, the entrepreneurial world is still a male dominated one.
Constraints facing by the women entrepreneurs are:
i. Lack of confidence – Fami l y b ackg round/ suppor t
ii. Socio-cultural barriers –Women’s family and personal obligations are sometimes a great
barrier for succeedingin business career.

Only few women with excellent back ground, are able to manage both home and
businessefficiently, devoting enough time to perform all their responsibilities in
priority.

Many businesswomen find it difficult to capture the market and make their products
popular. They are not fully aware of the changing market conditions and hencecan effectively
utilize the servicesof media and internet.

Other factors are family support, Government policies, financial assistancefrom public and
private institutions and alsothe environment suitable for women to establish enterprise.

develop a good business network.

Awareness about the Financial assistance – Various institutions in the financial sectorextend their
maximum support in the form of incentives, loans, schemesetc. Even then every woman
entrepreneur may not be aware of all the assistanceprovided by the institutions. Sothe sincere
efforts taken towards women entrepreneurs may not reach the entrepreneurs in rural and
backward areas.
• Training programs –
Training and workshops for skill development conducted through recognised
social and welfare associations i.e. based on fixed duration for the purpose of skills
development. Useful to new, rural and young entrepreneurs to set up a small and
medium scaleunit on their own.

To cater their needsinFinancialandMarketingareas.-In spite of the number of associations/ institutions,
and the schemesfrom the government, there is a need for an improvement to make utilization of
resources.
Qualified women shouldbe encouraged for managing their own business,rather than dependent
onwage employment outlets.

The unexplored talents of young women can be identified, trained and usedfor various types of
industries to increase the productivity in the industrial sector.
A desirable environment isnecessaryfor every woman to develop their skills.
