INPUT/OUTPUT FIELD TERMINAL
MODULE (HD DIO FTM)

Part Number 5441-689

Manual 26047
WARNING
Read this entire manual and all other publications pertaining to the
work to be performed before installing, operating, or servicing this
equipment. Practice all plant and safety instructions and
precautions. Failure to follow instructions can cause personal injury
and/or property damage.

The engine, turbine, or other type of prime mover should be

equipped with an overspeed (overtemperature, or overpressure,
where applicable) shutdown device(s), that operates totally
independently of the prime mover control device(s) to protect against
runaway or damage to the engine, turbine, or other type of prime
mover with possible personal injury or loss of life should the
mechanical-hydraulic governor(s) or electric control(s), the
actuator(s), fuel control(s), the driving mechanism(s), the linkage(s),
or the controlled device(s) fail.

CAUTION
To prevent damage to a control system that uses an alternator or
battery-charging device, make sure the charging device is turned off
before disconnecting the battery from the system.

CAUTION
Electronic controls contain static-sensitive parts. Observe the
following precautions to prevent damage to these parts.

• Discharge body static before handling the control (with power to

the control turned off, contact a grounded surface and maintain
contact while handling the control).
• Avoid all plastic, vinyl, and styrofoam (except antistatic versions)
around printed circuit boards.
• Do not touch the components or conductors on a printed circuit
board with your hands or with conductive devices.

The letter designation following the manual number is changed to the next letter in alphabetical order when
an important change is made in the manual.

CHANGED AREAS ARE INDICATED BY A BLACK LINE IN THE MARGIN.

Manual 26047 HD DIO FTM P/N 5441-689

HIGH DENSITY DISCRETE INPUT/OUTPUT FIELD TERMINAL MODULE

(HD DIO FTM) (P/N 5441-689)

DESCRIPTION The Woodward High Density Discrete Input/Output Field Terminal Module (HD
DIO FTM) connects directly to MicroNet™ high density discrete input/output (48
channels in, 24 channels out) module. Two HD DIO FTMs are used to access all
channels of the MicroNet card. Features of this FTM include the following:
• Connects directly to the HD discrete I/O module via a HD cable (eg.,
5417-173, 10 ft.). The cable connection will be the same as other FTM’s
(61 pin sub-D Slide lock).
• The FTM has 24 discrete inputs. The discrete inputs are patterned off of
similar MicroNet discrete input FTM’s. The inputs can be powered by
internal 24 Vdc or an external voltage. There are green LED’s for each
input. The LED will be “ON”, when the discrete input is “ON” for each
channel. Each unit is equipped with a jumper that powers the discrete
inputs from internal 24 Vdc. If external power is required, the jumper is
removed and the external power is connected to the FTM.
• The FTM has 12 relay outputs. The relays used for this module are an
‘Ice cube’ relay from Magnecraft which are identical to the Potter
Brumfield KUE-11D15-24 relays. All of the relays are removable and
can be removed while the unit is powered, when the relays are energized
or de-energized or when relay power is on or off. There is one Form “C”
relay contact (a normally open and normally closed contact with a single
common point) pinned out per relay. There are yellow LED’s for each
relay output. The LED will be “ON”, when the relay driver is “ON” for
each channel. Ratings for these relays are shown in the following table.

RESISTIVE INDUCTIVE

10 Amps at 28 Vdc 3 Amps at 28 Vdc

3 Amps at 150 Vdc 1.2 Amps at 150 Vdc

10 Amps at 115 Vac 6 Amps at 115 Vac

3 Amps at 240 Vac

• Dual high signal selected relay power inputs. The FTM can have two 18-
32 Vdc inputs from separate sources connected to power the relays. At 24
Vdc the total current draw for the FTM will be 700 mA maximum, if all
12 relays are energized. A green LED is ”ON” whenever either source is
active.
• The FTM is DIN rail mounted. Dimensions are: 18” length, 5” width and
3.625” height.
• All terminal connections use a green removable standard Phoenix Contact
terminal block.

• The I/O lock control relay is removable/ replaceable. A green LED is

”ON” whenever the I/O lock is not initiated.
• Two earth ground terminal blocks are provided on the bottom edge of the
FTM for ease of assembly.
• The FTM has not been certified to meet UL, CE or CSA certifications.
