Course Goals:
To gain and improve knowledge and understanding of healthy vocal
production.
To sing with an effective and efficient technique.
To prepare assigned repertoire artistically and stylistically correct.
To perform at the highest level currently possible.

Course Description:
This applied voice class is designed to give information about the
physical and cognitive requirements necessary to sing at the highest level
for each individual student.
It is structured to cater to students with varying degrees of previous
instruction and knowledge of this art form.

Prerequisites:
The ability to replicate a pitch or series of pitches.
The desire to make progress as an artist, musician, performer and singer.
The willingness to utilize constructive criticism and instruction.

Course Requirements:
Attendance and preparation is mandatory for individual voice lessons and
voice juries.
Students must record (cell phone, digital recording device, video, etc) each
lesson.
Preparation of assignments/repertoire for weekly lessons and voice juries is
required.
Completion of Compare/Contrast:
A written report comparing 6 different artists’ rendition of your assigned
repertoire (6 different artists per song) due by Nov 1, 2018.

Methods of Evaluation:
Students will be assessed on their preparation for weekly individual voice
lessons. This is 80% of their final grade.
Each student begins the semester with the letter grade of B. If each and
every assignment is prepared/completed within the time allotted, they will
maintain their grade of B.
• If a student is under-prepared, their grade will go down.
• If student works ahead of schedule, takes initiative and/or goes above
and beyond what is required by myself, they can become an A
student.
Jury performances are 20% of the final grade.

Attendance policies pertaining to final grade:

Each student is allowed one excused absence (Dr.'s note required) from
an individual voice lesson without penalty.
One unexcused absence will result in the lowering of final grade one
complete letter.
Two unexcused absences will result in a failing grade for the semester.
• Two tardy arrivals count as one unexcused absence. There is a 5
minute “grace period”. After 5 minutes, you are tardy.
• "No call/No show" (not showing up without 24 hours notice of
cancellation) to a voice lesson or juries is an unexcused absence,
regardless of circumstance.
Exam/Jury Policies:
Voice Juries will take the place of written final exams.
Students must attend scheduled juries. If illness is a factor, a note from a
doctor is required if the student is to be allowed to “make-up” their juries.
Failure to attend scheduled juries will result in a failing grade for the
semester.
Students must have ALL of their required pieces represented and
memorized at the time of their juries.
Required repertoire is at the discretion of the faculty and subject to change.
