QUESTION 1

A typical beam arrangement for an office building will be designed to support permanent and
variable action as shown in Figure Qia. The beam will be cast monolithically with slab and
having cross section as given in Figure Qib. The following are design data for beam A-B

Unit weight of concrete = 25 kN/m3

Characteristic concrete strength, fck = 30 N/mm2
High yield steel strength, fyk = 500 N/mm2
Slab thickness, h = 150 mm
Main reinforcement diameter = 20 mm
Shear reinforcement diameter = 10 mm
Nominal cover =30 mm

QUESTION 2

Design the reinforcement and evaluate the shear, deflection and cracking for slab Si as
shown in Figure Q2. Permanent action from finishes is 1.5 kN/m2 and variable action is 3.0
kNIm2 . Material used is concrete grade C30/37 and high yield tensile reinforcement, fyk =

500 N/mm2. The slab thickness, h = 125 mm, main reinforcement bar = H10 and slab cover
= 20 mm. Construct the reinforcement detailing in plan and section.
