Abstract - Structural Engineers are stiring for the most efficient and economical design with accuracy in solution while
ensuring that the final design of the building must be serviceable for its intended function over design lifetime. In the
present work, a G+3 structure is analyzed and designed using civil engineering application software Staad Pro.
Nowadays for quick and better accuracy the software techniques are used. Staad Pro is the one among the leading
softwares for the design of the structure. For this project, an ongoing project has been selected “Spiher Medical
Academic Block Building” which is executed in Hosur, Krishnagiri District. The structure is analyzed to find the shear
force, bending moment, deflections and reinforcement detailing for the structural components of the building such as
slab, beam and column to develop the economical design. The reinforcement detailing is very important since a huge
number of structures fail due to improper detailing methods.

Keywords- STAAD.Pro, Axial Force, Shear Force, Bending Moment, Lateral Drift, Lateral Displacement.

I. INTRODUCTION

The design of a simple building used to take at least a week during earlier times. However, the design of complicated
structures can now be done within a week’s time and with more accuracy using a host of software available in the market.
Staad Pro is the present day leading design software in the market. Many design companies use this software for their
project design purposes.

Our project having 46.895m x 71.95m, G+3 structure is modeled using Staad Pro. The height of the each storey is 3.8m
and the total height of the structure is 15.2m. Analysis and design of the structure are done from which the shear force,
bending moment, the area of steel, number of bars, diameter of the bars and the reinforcement detailing used in each
components are obtained.

Detailing is very important like the designs since proper detailing of engineering designs is an essential part in the
planning and the engineering process as some of the most devastating collapses in history have been occurred due to
defective detailing. Reinforcement detailing is prepared for each design results and then compared and checked if it
satisfies the codal provision. Total reinforcement steel quantity and the concrete quantity representing the volume of
concrete in the slab, beam and column are obtained.

2.5. Loading Considerations

The loads considered for the analysis of the structure are Live Load, Self Weight or Dead Load, Masonry or Wall load.
Since the structure is less tall wind load is not considered.

2.4.1. Live Load

Live load of 3kN/m2 is considered from Table 1 of the code IS 875-Part 2 (1987) for Educational Building.

2.4.2. Dead Load

Dead load or Self weight comprises of the beam, column and slabs of the structural building.

2.4.3. Masonry Load

Masonry load or wall load considered is 12 kN/m which is taken from the code IS 875-Part 1 (1987).
