Daily Weekly Twice a week Fortnightly
From the bar chart given above it was noted that major of persons in the
community garbage are disposed of regularly. Fifteen (15) persons garbage are
disposed of daily, Eight (8) persons garbage are disposed of weekly, and Two (2)
persons garbage are disposed of twice a week and no persons garbage are
disposed of fortnightly.
Three problems that are associated with garbage disposal in the community are
flooding, outbreak of diseases and Land pollution. When persons do not dispose of
their garbage safely it ends up in the water ways blocking the drainage system and
as a result flooding occurs which create many financial losses for residents.
Improper disposal of garbage in the community results in the outbreak of diseases
for example Malaria, whereby the mosquitoes breed in the garbage that is pile up
thus spreads diseases which can affect the health of residents. Land pollution is
also associated with garbage disposal since when persons dispose of garbage
improperly it spread all over the environment resulting unpleasant smell in the
community.
One type of garbage that could be recycled is plastic bottle (dry waste) - Recycling
plastic products also keep them out of landfills and allow the plastics to be reused
in manufacturing new products. Plastic bottle can therefore be used to make
ornaments and other creative products in the home which persons can sell to
earn a living. Thus, recycling plastic bottle can create a source of employment for
persons.
Three measures that residents can implement to ensure that their community
remains clean and healthy are:
Each household should ensure that they have a garbage disposal bin to get rid
of their garbage especially their solid waste since it the main cause/source of
pollution within the community.
The Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) should ensure that they are
regular clean-up campaign within the community, mainly the cleaning of
drains and trenches to help reduce flooding when there is heavy rain fall.
If the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) fails to collect garbage on
regular basis persons should bury their garbage and not burn them since it
can lead to air pollution causing harm to the health of residents and the
environment.
Conclusion
It can be concluded that the researcher has learnt the various ways in which
garbage is being collected and disposed in the village of Beezie Enmore along with
the time frame of which garbage is being collected within the village.
