Preston Peck

Personal Essay

My curiosity towards computers spiked when I was about 13 years old. I have always had a love
for computers and have built 2 computers of my own and spent nearly $1300 on them. Because of my
love for computers I thought I would use my knowledge of them and create a direct comparison between
myself and my actual computer.

A CPU, also known as the central processing unit, is what controls all the main process's of a
computer and is referred to as the "brain" of the computer. The CPU in my computer is a 6 core/12 thread
processor. Much like the processor in my own computer, i'm not the quickest but I get the job done. When
I was actually building my computer, I gathered all the parts over an entire year just so I could save the
most money. In the end I built the best computer I could've imagined.

The graphics card is in charge of the visual aspect of the computer. I, like a graphics card, am a
very visual person. I tend to learn visually and can teach visually. One time in my engineering class we
we're asked to design a bridge in CAD. When me and my partner were having trouble with design I took
it upon myself to design the entire bridge out of Popsicle sticks to give him a proper visual to work off of.

A power supply is responsible for providing power to the computer. I also provide power, but in a
different way. I provide power to the people around me by being a good person. I try to lift others up and
give them power. When I work in a group I make sure to give all my work and power to the group. The
cables on the power supply connect to different parts in the computer and like those cables, I try to
connect with different people.

I have many fancy RGB lights on the inside of my computer to provide a unique look. These
lights represent my creative outlook. The uniqueness the lights give to my computer represent the
uniqueness of myself. There is no other Preston Peck on earth. I am one of a kind and I believe that
understanding that is important in being able to portray it. I try to make myself distinct from others in my
personality and mannerisms.

And lastly, I want to compare myself to my computer case. It is a sturdy metal case with a
tempered glass window on the side. The case supports the entirety of my computer and holds everything
together. I, like my computer case, support others. When my friend was struggling with a drug addiction I
took it upon myself to help support him on his road to quitting. The side panel window on the side makes
it transparent. I also try to be transparent, whether it be in regular interactions or business interactions.
