Social-economic influence Americans caused in Cuenca

Currently, American retirees have caused a great impact in the Cuenca society due to

the fact that choosing my city to settle, so they are growing fastly. Moreover, Cuenca city has

been internationally acclaimed as an exceptional place for living, for its stability, countless

cultural attractions and good economic conditions for the Americans community that is

increasing every day. Now, I will analyze the social-economic influence Americans caused in

Cuenca.

In the first place, socially speaking, Americans have relatively a strong influence in

ours. But, a large majority tends not to socialize with local people and also not learn Spanish,

so spend time almost exclusively with other Americans. However, others prefer to learn and

speak our language, and of this manner related with ours, such as in the customs, language,

and traditions. In addition, “Cuenca is attracting more expands than any other location in

Ecuador” (Living, 2016) for their culture, friendly people, and hospitality.

On the other hand, the new residents produce division and resentment in the economic

environment of Cuenca, according to Mark McCleskey in my interview, I concluded that the

economic impact by Americans residents in Cuenca has affected the housing market, since

locals assume that they have a lot of money so, as a result, higher prices have been paid for

real state and rental properties; besides, generally the prices have increased on many things

due to the presence of the same Americans. He is a retired English teacher from Lubbock,

Texas, and an American resident during 19 years in Cuenca, for this is a reliable source.

In conclusion, personally my city is as “the paradise of retirees”, where the American

influence is present all the time, and this create some disadvantages as the increase in

purchasing power and money circulation. Although, the arrivals of the Americans to my city

have many benefits as change knowledge, culture and traditions, and a high value economic
in Cuenca. Finally, it`s important to live in harmony between national and foreigners, beyond

borders and economic and social ideological barriers have been imposed since the beginning

of humanity causing separation and chaos.
