Synopsis on
“Mines Accident Detector”
For Major Project

Topic of the Project: Mines Accident Detector helps in various ways for detection of harmful
gases, temperature and humidity.

Objective and Scope: The entire project aims at reducing the accidents that occurs in coal mines
due to which no. of people lost their life. The mine detector helps coal miner to detect the hazardous
gases, temperature at the early stage before crossing the threshold value, so that control room take
necessary action for the workers.

Process Description: The planned description of our project is detailed below:

1. Simulation in CISCO PACKET TRACER
2. Sensors Details
• DHT 11 Sensor (For Humidity and Temperature)
• Gas Sensor (hazardous gas)
• LCD Actuator
3. Arduino MCU (Micro Controller Unit)
4. ESP8266 Wi-Fi module
5. ThingSpeak (Website that provide interface to send information)

Limitations: As this is the project for coal mines it is difficult to measure the data for large distance
without moving the sensor in Coal mines.

Resources: There is a Graphical platform ThingSpeak which allow us to create a user interface so
that with the help of this we can transfer the notification as well as data in real time to the control
room. The software is Open Source and has no cost associate to it. Cisco Packet Tracer also helps
us to simulate as well as code for the sensors and provide virtual environment for testing purpose.

Conclusion: Hence, we are aiming at developing a Mines accident detector which is easy to
fabricate and assemble with use of Internet of Things.
