Course Title & Number: IENG3002 PLANT LAYOUT &

MATERIALS HANDLING
Course Overview: Improvements to plant layouts and material handling systems
used by workers are key to minimizing waste with improved
performance and productivity.
Prerequisites: NONE
Organizational Structure of Course:
Relevance to Dept/University Mission:

Purpose of the Course**

This course is designed for the third year student specializing in the field of Industrial/Manufacturing
Engineering. It is a core Industrial Engineering disciplines and presents the basic principles and
criteria underlying successful design of facilities layout to maximise product throughput and
handling. It also provides the engineering student with concepts to better appreciate the principles
of Lean Manufacturing.

Persons interested in working as an Industrial Engineering practitioner will benefit, over the duration
of this course, from the knowledge governing facilities layout, planning and materials handling.
