main menu and watch temperature fluctuations. If it is on the rise, it is OK.

Notes: by preheating the machine, you may save time waiting for the printing. You may stop the heating by
go to “Temperature” → ”Cooldown”.

F. Prepare for printing

F.1 Level the Build Plate
Leveling the build plate is the first step of operation when the 3D printer is used for the first time or not used for
a long time, or after the printer is moved. Not only the platform’s levelness should be adjusted, but also the gap
between the platform and the nozzle should be adjusted accordingly. The gap between the platform and the
nozzle should be reasonable: if it is too big, the material will fail to attach to the build plate. If it is too small, the
material will fail to come out of the nozzle. Therefore, the gap between the platform and the nozzle should be
around 0.3mm. It matters whether the first layer will be well attached to the build plate or not.
Go to “Prepare” → “Auto Home”, the X, Y and Z axis will go back to the original positions. And then choose
“Disabled Steppers” to unlock the motors. Move the extruder by hand to the build plate’s four corners. Put a
piece of A4-sized paper between the build plate and the nozzle and pull the paper while moving the extruder to
see whether there are difficulties in pulling the paper. In this way, you could figure out the appropriate gap
between the build plate and the nozzle.
If the paper is nipped but still it can be pulled with moderate resistance, the gap is OK. If the paper can be pulled
easily with little resistance, the gap is too big. Then you need to turn the knob clockwise to move up the build
plate to an appropriate height. If the paper can't be pulled with too much resistance, the gap is too small and
you need to turn the knob counterclockwise to move down the build plate to an appropriate height.
(For the adjusting directions, please refers to angle of overlooking)

13
Version:WB. CL. V04.

1 2 3

Check the build plate’s levelness:

Move the extruder to four corners to observe whether there are scratches. If there are any, the gap between the
nozzle and the build plate is too small. Please turn the knobs counterclockwise to move down the build plate
and take steps below.
Preheat the machine and load filament. Print the file “Level.gcode " in the SD card. Observe the adhesion
between the square lines and build plate to confirm whether the gap is OK or not according to square line’s
thickness. [Attention: the square line’s width is not the criteria].
If there is a disconnection, the position between the start and the end of the disconnection is the criteria. If it is
too thin, the gap is too small and you need to turn the knobs counterclockwise to move down the build plate. If
the line is too thick and there is no sign of compressing, the gap is too big and you need to adjust the knobs
clockwise to move up the build plate. If the line thickness is moderate, the build plate is well leveled.

Usually, in order to level the build plate well in a quicker way, we need to level it during printing. Since the bed is
hot, please be careful enough to protect any burns.
Attention: Since there is processing error to the glass plate as well as the bed, the square line’s thickness may
be different from time to time. In this case, you need to level the build plate until there is pressing signs on the
square line while it is not too thin.

F.2 Material Loading

The material should be put into the feeder well. If the material rotating direction is not correct, the material may
get stuck inside the nozzle, resulting in material blocking. The feeding direction should be like this.

14
Version:WB. CL. V04.

Steps like below:

1 2 3

4 5 6

1:On the main menu “Temperature”“preheat” to heat the extruder;

2:Push the filament through with strength until the filament passes the gear to the tube;

3:After heating, insert the filament to the extruder and push it down a little

× √
Material gets twisted Material straightened

15
Version:WB. CL. V04.

4:Material comes out of the nozzle evenly;

5:Insert the tube to the extruder;

6:Put back the blue buckle

Tips: If the filament refuses to go into the feeder, you may need to preheat the extruder first and then go to the
LCD pane: “Temperature” → ”Load filament” → ”Fast load 500mm” . After that, you may push the filament
into the feeder as shown below:

F.3 Change Filament During Printing

If you find that the material is running out during printing or you want to change another color, you may do as
shown below. (Note: the yellow material is the current one while the green one is the new material).

1 2 3

half-angle symbols.

G.2 Model Files

17
Version:WB. CL. V04.

Model files of STL and OBJ formats can be recognized by the operation software. STL files are
recommended.

G.3 The Use of Glue Stick

You may need to apply certain amount of glue on the glass in order to make
the model better attach to the glass plate.
Do apply it too much, otherwise, it would be difficult to remove the print or the
nozzle may touch the glue to make it become blocked.

G.4 Print from SD Card

You may copy the Gcode files generated from Cura or Win Ware to the SD card or save them to the SD
directly.
Insert the SD card on the machine. Choose “Print from SD” on the main menu and select the file that you
would like to print. The machine starts heating automatically.

Attention: Normally, you need to preheat and try extrusion first. When the extrusion is OK, you may choose

H. Machine Maintenance
WINBO 3D printers can work for dozens of hours continually. After long time working, some parts on the
machine may go through wear and tear. We kindly advice that you should apply maintenance to the machine
every month.
 Machine casing
Clean the machine casing with soft cloth, to remove the dust and plastic fragment.
 Axis
When you find that there is unpleasant noise or intense vibration on the axis, it is time to lubricate them.
Apply some lube on the axis with a cloth.
 Feeder cleaning
After long time working, you may find certain amount of residuals on the feeder which may effect the
feeding quality. Therefore, the feeder require contant cleaning. You may need a brush as shown below:

 Leveling the Build Plate:

After the machine being unused for some time, it is recommended that the build plate should be leveled
again. You may go to the “Level the Build Plate” on F.1.
 Extruder Cleaning
There are several causes for nozzle cloggings.
1. The printing settings are incorrectly, resulting in excessive extrusion or undermelting of the
material inside the extruder. And then the melting material starts pushing up inside the extruder.
When the material comes back to certain height, the material will be solidified since it is not closed
to the heating. As a result, the extruder is clogged. Such kind of case always happen when printing
the first layer. Other causes such as vibration or human factors may cause extruder cloggings,
since they bring unleveled build plate or a too small gap between the build plate and the extruder.
2. Mix and match different kinds of materials. For example, printing with PLA all the time, then
change to ABS suddenly. And then come back to PLA printing. In this case, you will find ABS
residuals inside the extruder, because the melting temperatures of both materials are different:

210-230℃ for PLA printing while 230-240℃ for ABS printing. If so, you may use ABS’s printing

temperatue at first to melt PLA for some time and then lower down the temperature to PLA printing.
3. There are some impurities on the material which causes nozzle cloggings.
Solution 1:
Steps:

1) Go to the LCD panel: Temperature → Preheat to heat up the nozzle to 230℃.

21
Version:WB. CL. V04.

2) Use the needle that is included in the tool kit to insert into the nozzle from the bottom. If the needle
could not enter the nozzle smoothly, rotate the needle slightly to help it go through the nozzle. The needle
may go inside for about 10mm. After inserting, you may push and pull for serveral times to remove the
residuals on the nozzle through the resistance.
3) Pull out the needle and extrude the material by hand to see the result. For better effect, you may need
to unclog the nozzle for serveral times.

Solution 2: disassemble the extruder to clean the residuals inside

1 2 3

4 5 6

Go to the LCD panel: Temperature → Preheat to heat up the nozzle to 230℃. Pull out the transparent tube and

then cool down the extruder.

Steps:
1) First twist off the four screws as shown on the Photo 1.
2) Remove the wind guide from the left side.
3) Holding the extruder and pull it down slowly until the nozzle and the white heat insulator is separated.
4) Insert a piece pf filament clipping from up to down to clean the clogged material inside the heat
insulator.
22
Version:WB. CL. V04.

5) Seeing the clogged material on the nozzle as shown on the Photo 5,heat up the nozzle to 230℃.

6) Use a piecs of pliers to bite the cooling aluminum block and separate the fan and the nozzle with
fingers: avoid heating extruder to damage the fan. Use a piece of filament clipping to remove the
clogged material inside.
7) Attention: high temperature operation, be cautious.
8) Other solutions: change a new nozzle.

Go to the LCD panel: Temperature → Preheat to heat up the nozzle to 230℃. Use a piece of Allen wrench and
a common wrench to take down the nozzle as shown on the above photos: pay attention to the twisted direction,
as well as the twisting strength. Use a piece of tweezers to take out the nozzle that is inside the Allen wrench.
And then you may put on a new nozzle and the printer can start work again now.
