Designing a Bus Shelter for Bahir Dar City

Based on the information given in the lecture, you are required to design a bus shelter suitable
for Bahir Dar City. The shelter must be divided into two sections: enclosed and open for
purposes of inclement weather. You must take into account the following design parameters:

 Location,
 Climate,
 Light and ventilation,
 Peak hour travel periods and passenger load/capacity,
 Renewable methods and sustainability,
 Material finish.
 Ease of Maintenance

Expected Output (CGI or hand drawn)

The following are the required (colour rendered) drawings to be submitted on A3 or A2 paper:

Presentation drawings @ 1:25 scale:

 Bus shelter floor plan and bus bay layout

 Front elevation
 Left and right side elevations
 Cross-section
 3d perspective that best highlights your design.

Detail drawings @ 1:10 scale:

 Structural,
 Connections,
 Façade treatment (if any) details
 Seat design and connection details
 Any additional details you think necessary

Note:
Most bus shelters are rectangular in plan because it is the most spacially efficient geometric
shape. Don’t let this prevent you from thinking…outside that rectangular box!!

 GOOD LUCK! 
