ABSTRACT AND

CRITICAL ANALYSISOF

Mild steel corroson

Problem Discussed by Researcher
For prevention corrosion in mild steel a lot of study and research has been carried out. Corrosion is
very common problem especially in the acidic environment which directly affects cost as well as
safety. On the other side some organic corrosion inhibitors have certain advantages as compared to
above discussed methods these inhibitors are considered to be cost effective and also do not disturb
the eco system of our planet. These inhibitors mostly derived from natural resources i,e plants which
contains sulfur, nitrogen and oxygen atoms by using different mechanism and techniques the atoms
can remove rust and corrosion.

Methodology adopted by researcher

In order to carried out the research first of all a Specimen of mild steel (4 cm x 2 cm x 0.1cm)
were made.than the mild steel were polished using emery paper. For the assessment of qualitative
chemical composition of various samples of plant phytochemical screening were made, than after
Mild steel were immersed in the inhibitor solution upto 24 hours speciemen was removed dried
rinsed in distilled water and then by using JEOL Method surface morphology of Mild speciemen was
measured.

Finding/Results of Experiments
It was found from weight loss method that by increasing inhibitor concentration IE increases and at
15 V/v the extract have have high efficiencyb82.26% in hydrochloric acid, which showed that TN
plant leaves would give good corrosion inhibitor..From Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) data
collected the results obtained were concluded that because of the formation of good protective film of
TN leaves extract on mild steel surface improvement in which was seen in surface morphology is
responsible for inhibition for corrosion

Application of Study in Engineering problems

There is wide range of application in the engineering study millions of dollars of MS material tanks
,pressure vessels,Pipes, expensive Machineries wasting every year. If proper inhibitor are used and a
care is made these wastages can be recover

Conclusion suggested by author

The author concluded that TN leaves is an effective corrosion pickling inhibitor for mild steel in 1 N

and also TN leaves can found easily. Extraction of TN Leaves that there is 84.26% at optimum
concentration of 15 v/v by immersing one at room temperature. These leaves extraction prove to be a
mixed type inhibitor on the metal surface. The electrochemical tests results shows that weight loss
measurements are consistent
Critical Analysis
Introduction To Topic:
For prevention corrosion in mild steel a lot of study and research has been carried out. Corrosion is
very common problem especially in the acidic environment which directly affects cost as well as
safety. There is numerous methods and techniques used in the industries in order to remove scales
and rust from the mild steel I,e some methods like some acidic chemical used for removal of
rust,Pickling,Etching (chemical or electrochemical) ,sometime the rust is washed with certain acids
these techniques are expensive also hazardous, On the other side some organic corrosion inhibitors
have certain advantages as compared to above discussed methods these inhibitors are considered to
be cost effective and also do not disturb the eco system of our planet. These inhibitors mostly
derived from natural resources i,e plants which contains sulfur, nitrogen and oxygen atoms by using
different mechanism and techniques the atoms can remove rust and corrosion.

Key Findings :
It was found from weight loss method that by increasing inhibitor concentration IE increases and at
15 V/v the extract have have high efficiencyb82.26% in hydrochloric acid, which showed that TN
plant leaves would give good corrosion inhibitor. The data collected from potentiodynamic
polarization confirmed that by decreasing Icorr values with increasing in the concentration of the
leaves extract,we can get % at 15 v/v The maximum inhibition efficiency of 92.77, which is the
optimum concentration of the inhibitor decreasing the oxidation of metal and forming on the metal
surface protective film .From Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) data collected the results
obtained were concluded that because of the formation of good protective film of TN leaves extract
on mild steel surface improvement in which was seen in surface morphology is responsible for
inhibition for corrosion
Methodology and Parameter analysis:
In order to carried out the research first of all a Specimen of mild steel (4 cm x 2 cm x 0.1cm)
were made.than the mild steel were polished using emery paper. Than TN plant leaves were dried
and grinded. Than the specimen were dipped in HCL solution and weight loss was measured. Than by
using Bruker ALPHA 8400S spectrophotometer FTIR spectra were recorded ,Through
Potentiodynamic polarization methods ,polarization measurements for the evaluation of corrosion
potential, corrosion current and Tafel slope were carried out. For the assessment of qualitative
chemical composition of various samples of plant phytochemical screening were made, than after
Mild steel were immersed in the inhibitor solution upto 24 hours speciemen was removed dried
rinsed in distilled water and then by using JEOL Method surface morphology of Mild speciemen was
measured.

Importance Conclsion:
The author concluded that TN leaves is an effective corrosion pickling inhibitor for mild steel in 1 N

Weakness in the Paper

The Paper did not describe a cost comparison of different process and methods used for the
protection of Mild steel corrosion, also there is no proper method of experiment or research
conduction and the obtained results.all the experiment were carried out in one speciemen

Scope of Further Investigation:

When using the modified ASTM G-109 macrocell specimens, a few standard ASTM G-109 specimens
with mild steel reinforcement only should be constructed for comparison. ,Where possible, when
analyzing several variables in similar experimental programs, at least three specimens should be
considered for each variable to clearly validate the results.,Connection wires used for non-destructive
measurements should be protected against the outdoor environment to avoid possible deterioration
and corrosion that would increase resistivity. Also, wiring systems should be protected against salt
water contact while filling up the Plexiglas containers for the aggressive exposure of the corrosion
specimens.
