1. Purpose and Scope of document

The intent of this document is to identify the actions needed to modify codec configuration

in Huawei MGCF (Codec standardization for VOLTE).

2. Impact analysis

a) Activity duration : 1 to 2 Hour

b) Service Impact : No

c) Outage Involved : No

Any changes in codec may increase the TC resource utilization in network if peer end codec

configuration is different.

3. Detailed procedure for implementation

a) High Level Plan & Action

b) Pre check :

i) Check the current software version of MSOFTX, recommended MSOFTX

software version is V500R011C20SPH210 or higher. If node is running on
the lowest software version, post codec change activity may face the muting
issue in SIP to BICC call scenario.
ii) It is recommended to take data backup, system backup, current alarm log
and hardware status check before the activity.
iii) Collect the break in & break out trace before execution. To verify the codec
selection post change activity.

iv) Do the pre testing as per the testing sheet attached

c) Check the codec setting in office (SIP office used for break-in call) i.e:

i) LST OFC: ON="NSNIMS01", OFCTYPE=ALL;

ii) LST OFC: ON="NSNIMS0X", OFCTYPE=ALL;

d) Modify the codec in SIP office used for Break-in call. Apply the force use office
codec UMTSAMR2-1

i) MOD OFC: ON="NSNIMS01", OFCTYPE=COM, SIG=SIP,

OFFICECODEC=GSMEFR-0&GSMHR-0&TDMAEFR-0&PDCEFR-0&HRAM
R-0&UMTSAMR2-1&FRAMR-0&FRAMRWB-0&UMTSAMRWB-0&PCMA-

ii) MOD OFC: ON="NSNIMS0X", OFCTYPE=COM, SIG=SIP,

OFFICECODEC=GSMEFR-0&GSMHR-0&TDMAEFR-0&PDCEFR-0&HRAM

26_24-0&G726_32-0&G726_40-0&AMR_Align-0&AMR2_ALIGN-0&G722-0;

e) Take a Take a print out of the office and cross verify the codec configuration

f) Compare the pre & post Signaling trace (i.e : Break-in call trace comparison)
i) Break-in call trace

Note: As per the requirement only UMTSAMR2 has been allowed towards IMS for break in
call.

ii) Break-out call trace : [No changes required for the same, just take a trace
Invite Message must have all mod set (0,2,3) and cross check the codec
selection , AMR-WB should not be selected]
MGCG to MSC/VLR codec priority configuration not included in this activity.

4. Statistics/Reports to be checked pre and post

a) TC resource utilization
b) Codec negotiation traffic in an office direction
c) CSR/SCR
d) ASR
e) CCR [ Call completion rate]
f) Customer complaints related to call muting need to be observed

5. Test Cases (Pre and Post)

Test Cases (Prepaid Local Number)) Pre Test Post Test

Sr No Scenario Result Result Remarks
1 Break In - CS to VOLTE Incoming Call Share the traces for Pre & Post comparision
2 Break out - Volte to CS Incoming Call Share the traces for Pre & Post comparision
3 Incoming call from other operator (A no Other Operator B no Airtel Prepaid )
4 (I/C and O/G) for all ISUP/BICC
5 (I/C and O/G) for all SIP IVR
6 Conference call
7 Call fowarding (Conditional, B number VoLTE)
8 Call fowarding (Unconditional - Busy, B number VoLTE)
9 Call fowarding (Unconditional - Not reachable, B number VoLTE)
10 Call fowarding (Unconditional No Answer, B number VoLTE)
Test Cases (Postpaid Local Number))

6. Fall back Procedure

i) Take a print out of SIP office used for Break in call.

LST OFC: ON="NSNIMS01", OFCTYPE=ALL;

ii) Modify the force use codec from the SIP office as per the initial codec setting

MOD OFC: ON="NSNIMS01", OFCTYPE=COM, SIG=SIP,

OFFICECODEC=GSMEFR-0&GSMHR-0&TDMAEFR-0&PDCEFR-0&HRAMR-0
&UMTSAMR2-0&FRAMR-0&FRAMRWB-0&UMTSAMRWB-0&PCMA-0&PCM
U-0&UMTSAMR-0&G7231-0&G729A-0&GSMFR-0&G726_16-0&G726_24-0&G
726_32-0&G726_40-0&AMR_Align-0&AMR2_ALIGN-0&G722-0;

7. Checks from any other eco system

i) IMS team need to align to check the KPI impact and testing support.
ii) Verification and confirmation for codec selection.

8. Risks / Limitations

Any changes in codec may increase the TC resource utilization in network if peer end codec

configuration is different.
