Student Reflection (Thoroughly answer all questions)

How has this clinical rotation helped to define your role as a nurse? Please explain.
This clinical rotation helped me to utilize and strengthen my therapeutic communication with patients. I was
somewhat timid going into this rotation, but I honestly feel as if it was an amazing opportunity. I was able to
strengthen my therapeutic communication techniques by having length conversations with them and engage in
a teaching activity that they were very appreciative of.

Which objective did you accomplish during this rotation? How did you do it?
During this rotation I was able to use the nursing process to optimize client health and provide patient centered
care. I was able to use several learned assessment techniques to understand and complete assessment forms
and strengthen my therapeutic communication skills.

What are your goals for your next clinical rotation?

My goals for my next clinical rotation are to continue to build upon my skills to assimilate into the profession of
nursing.

Faculty Comments/ Student Learning Goals (Goals must be established even if performance is satisfactory.
If an item was identified as N or U, narrative comments are necessary to clarify student performance along
with goals to improve performance).
Excellent documentation of assessment data (nursing program Worksheet) and identification of priority patient
problems/issues. Under general assessment, would like to see documentation of assessment findings related to
medications side effects. (rigidity of muscles; BM’s; voiding or c/o urine retention, etc.). Continue to study
nursing care r/t side effects of psychotropic medications (e.g., EPS, NMS).
Exemplary Focused Interaction assignment where you developed, implemented and evaluated a teaching activity
using the nursing process. You also demonstrated excellent use therapeutic communication techniques. This
learning activity was so amazingly appropriate for this patient, and he verbalized a lot of appreciation for it. Final
grade for this activity = 47/47. It was a pleasure to have had you for psych clinical, Brittany!
