PRELIMINARY DESIGN REPORT

Introduction:

Our Aim is to design and develop an autonomous underwater explorer (AUE). The proposed

AUE is capable of providing reliable and sharp service for autonomous navigation using GPS. The

developed AUE is designed to perform obstacle avoidance, underwater photography and exploration

of sub-aquatic resources. The AUE is simple in construction with its two propellers used for thrust

and two pumps for varying the deepness in which it has to dive.

Concept:

The depth of the AUE can be

controlled by adjusting the water in the

ballistic tank. The float or submerge of

AUE depends on its buoyancy. The

propellers are used to produce thrust in

the water.

Positive buoyancy – AUE floats on water.

It is less dense than the water around.

Modifications in Mechanical structure:

Stability : The AUE is designed to have a very stable

hydrodynamic structure, so that is tends to restore itself

to an equilibrium position even after a violent

disturbance.By adjusting the axis of ducted channel and

axis of ballistic tank, the AUE becomes highly stable even

in violent conditions such as tsunami and cyclones..

Water splashes in the submarines.

Ducted chamber:

This proposed improvement

is to surround a boat

propeller with a casing.. NO

thrust is wasted in a radial

outward direction.

Substantially greater

efficiency is a result.. A

straight, constant diameter

tube will have substantial

good effect. The value of

this concept is in ensuring that ALL of the energy put into the water by the spinning the propeller will

result in productive thrust, and not wasted radially ejected water.

Concept of working of AUE:

THE WORKING CONCEPT OF AUE

Working:

To sink in:

To make the AUE submerge in water, the ballistic tank is filled with the water around

it, with the help of the pump. As the weight of the AUE gets increased, it starts submerging

in.

To rise up:

When the pump sucks out the water from the ballistic tank, the weight of the AUE

gets reduced and it gains positive buoyancy, thus making it float and comes to the water surface.
Propeller:

The rotational motion of the propeller produces thrust. A pressure difference is produced between the

forward and rear surfaces of the aero foil-shaped blade, the water is accelerated behind the blade

and hence the necessary thrust force is created.

Photographs of AUV (stage-1) :

The team DNA has constructed a working model of the proposed AUE with minimum specifications.

The constructed model is wire controlled underwater vehicle powered by 12v DC battery source which
is inbuilt in the underwater vehicle. Here are some of the photographs of DNA’s underwater vehicle.
