Overview of Issue
Sick children don’t have the same rich daily life as everybody else who is healthy. However,
they want to have interesting activities and friends to accompany them. Hospitals can become
very boring, especially for children. Keeping children happy while being hospitalized is important
for a child’s growth. According to the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project, more than 5.9
million children stayed in the hospital during 2012 in United States. In Los Angeles, children’s
hospitals have about 14,600 patients per year and sometimes more (“Facts About…”). It is
necessary for us to show concern for this large part of our population. We need to help them
overcome their loneliness by holding parties, classes, and games. With our efforts, the lives of
hospitalized children can become more interesting, more meaningful, and most importantly, full
of hope.

Mission Statement and Philosophy

Mission statement: Ray of Hope strives to use parties, classes and events to bring joy to
Hospitalized children despite their daily health struggles.

Ray of Hope is a non-profit organization that focuses on the needs of hospitalized children. We
strive to brighten up a sick child’s day by giving them parties, activities, and classes to attend.
We hope that these events will not only distract them from their illness, but will also allow the
children to connect with other hospitalized kids that can relate to them. We work hard to make
these children feel welcomed, loved, and accepted into a community. When Jesus was on
earth, he reached the people that were marginalized by society. He loved them, cared for them,
and served them. We hope to model our non-profit after the example that Jesus gave to us
during his ministry by loving the children that feel forgotten and hopeless.

Action Plan
Ray of Hope’s short term plan is to raise money through our GoFundMe and gain volunteers to
help with events and parties. Gaining money is important to be able to buy the supplies that we
need to create fun events for the children. The events include parties, games, classes, and
activities. As for our long term plan, we plan on raising additional funds by using our GoFundMe
and asking for corporate donations. We would also like to build a team of volunteers and staff to
help set up and handle the events. Ray of Hope also hopes to be able to have our own office
and workspace to help grow our company. Lastly Ray of Hope would like to ask for donations
from families to help get us the supplies we need. These supplies include decorations, snacks,
entertainment, crafts, and games. Having these events will benefit the community by providing
emotional support and love for families dealing with a child in the hospital. Ray of Hope will
provide a sense of normalcy in a sick child’s life, even with just one event. Making these
children feel joyful and loved is Ray of Hope’s goal. Our action plan will utilize our social media
platforms by allowing families to see the schedule of our events and invitations to attend or
donate. Ray of Hope provides different options for hospitalized children while other non profit
organizations such as Caitlin’s Smiles and Cards for Hospitalized Kids offer gift bags and cards.
We offer parties and events where the children have a chance to have fun and feel normal.
