Ghazi is a highly creative student student who thrives on independent study.

He is well-read
and philosophical, with influences such as Ingmar Bergman’s ‘Images: My Life In Film’,
Plato’s ‘The Republic’, Friedrich Nietzsche's ‘Beyond Good And Evil’ and Lao Tzu’s ‘Tao Te
Ching’. In Film Studies, Ghazi’s holistic perspective elevates discussions exploring themes of
relevance in today’s society. Ghazi is developing into an accomplished film student whose
understanding consists of a range of digital applications and equipment. His passion is in
moving image and he has an excellent grasp of the various stages, from concept and
pre-production planning, through to production and post-production, with editing completing
the artistic process. He researches in great depth and comprehending the foundation for
concepts and pre-production work in all moving image disciplines. He is fascinated with
contemporary film styles, experimenting with cinematography to great effect and using
current editing practices through Adobe Premier Pro and After Effects. His inquisitive nature
is a strength; not satisfied with learning how to master the use of equipment he insists on
breaking boundaries and looking at different procedures and styles to produce a range of
aesthetic effects. He is technically confident; works effectively whether independently or
within a group, as comfortable leading or being led. Ghazi is a keen collaborator both in the
recording studio and on location shoots. With the combination of passion, skill and
dedication I expect Ghazi to develop into an outstanding filmmaker. In Psychology, his
natural ability to structure eloquent and coherent responses. Ghazi is an excellent listener
and his essays are reflective of careful analysis of comments made by his peers and he
displays a range of perspectives in his extended answers.
Ghazi has particularly enjoyed studying psychopathology and debunking myths surrounding
common mental illnesses. As this is a widely portrayed topic in film, enthusiasm is in learning
about the differences between fictional portrayals and real life case studies of those suffering
from psychological disorders. Furthermore, he has applied his understanding of vicarious
reinforcement to the media industry, particularly in how children may perceive movie
characters as role models, leading them to display the same behaviours as the actors they
watch on screen.
Ghazi’s strong work ethic and independent attitude in a recent debate allowed him to apply
highly technical language regarding EEG technology to scan the brain. This was owing to his
detailed research prior to the class discussion, enabling to confidently apply the vocabulary
and use it to question his peers about alternative brain scanning techniques. His Biology
talks on the biological implications of Global Warming and also the impact of HIV and TB on
hospital disease prevention protocol impressed both his teachers and peers with the depth
of research and clarity of communication; moving the understanding of the entire class
forward. His tenacity to deal with complex logical issues when presented with various data
was encouraging.
Beyond the classroom Ghazi holds work experience at the Psychiatric Department of the
Sultan Qaboos University hospital, shadowing a psychiatrist and a professor while talking to
patients and was a part of discussions about the diagnosis of mental disorders. He is
currently involved with a company called ‘Knowledge Oman’ that conducts seminars whose
mission is to help the youth of Oman in many ways. Ghazi has helped to film and edit
promotional films, supporting event coverage and has gained insight into film as professional
medium other than art.
Ghazi is of clear intellect and has a disarmingly humble nature, I have no doubt Ghazi will
thrive in the environment of Higher Education; his application gets our fullest support.
