Advanced IOT Based Home Automation

ABSTRACT:
We live in an exciting time where more and more everyday items “things” are becoming smart!
“Things” have sensors and can communicate to other “things” and can provide control to more
“things”. The Internet of Things, IoT, is upon us in a huge way and people are rapidly inventing
new gadgets that enhance our lives. The price of microcontrollers with the ability to talk over a
network keeps dropping and developers can now tinker and build things inexpensively.

IoT based home automation project is done using low cost ESP8266 ESPino ESP-12 WiFi Module,
It uses relays and few simple components, complete code is provided, for more details on software
setup go through IoT getting started tutorial. You can control four electrical devices and also you
can monitor temperature. ESP-12 is low cost module we are using here. With advancement of
Automation technology, life is getting simpler and easier in all aspects. In today’s world Automatic
systems are being preferred over manual system. With the rapid increase in the number of users of
internet over the past decade has made Internet a part and parcel of life, and IoT is the latest and
emerging internet technology. Internet of things is a growing network of everyday object-from
industrial machine to consumer goods that can share information and complete tasks while you are
busy with other activities. Wireless Home Automation system(WHAS) using IoT is a system that
uses computers or mobile devices to control basic home functions and features automatically
through internet from anywhere around the world, an automated home is sometimes called a smart
home. It is meant to save the electric power and human energy. The home automation system
differs from other system by allowing the user to operate the system from anywhere around the
world through internet connection.

INTRODUCTION

The way toward controlling or working different gear, apparatus, modern procedures, and different
applications utilizing different control frameworks and furthermore with less or no human
mediation is named as computerization. There are different sorts of computerization in view of
the application they can be ordered as home mechanization, modern robotization, independent
robotization, building computerization, and so forth.,. In this article, let us talk about remote home
computerization utilizing IOT (Internet of Things). Home Automation is the way toward controlling
home machines consequently utilizing different control framework systems. The electrical and
electronic machines in the home, for example, fan, lights, outside lights, fire caution, kitchen clock,
and so forth., can be controlled utilizing different control systems. Remote Home Automation
utilizing IOT (Internet of Things) There are different methods to control home machines, for
example, IOT based home mechanization over the cloud, home computerization under Wi-Fi
through android applications from any Smartphone, Arduino based home robotization, home
computerization by android application based remote control, home mechanization utilizing
advanced control, RF based home computerization framework and touch screen-based home
robotization. Different sorts of Home Automation Systems Wireless home computerization
utilizing IOT is a creative utilization of web of things created to control home machines remotely
finished the cloud. The home computerization framework venture can be produced by following
straightforward strides demonstrated as follows.

BLOCK DIAGRAM

PROPOSED BLOCK DIAGRAM EXPLANATION

Block diagram of the proposed system diagram is shown in figure. The main block of this system
is the Arduino microcontroller board. The power supply provided for Arduino is 5V and here we
are getting it from solar panel which has the rating 15 volt 1 watt solar panel .which charge the
battery of 12 volt. This solar energy from the solar panel is used to charge the battery. Regulator
ICs are used in this solar charger circuit. The diode here 1N4007 allows current flow in only one
direction. It allows current flow from the solar panel to the battery, but it doesn’t allow the reverse
of the same.

There are relays to serve the purpose of on and off and it consist of relay 1, relay 2 and relay 3.
Then here we are using a moisture sensor connected with a microcontroller. These moisture
sensors measure dielectric permittivity of the surrounding medium, Wi-Fi module (ESP- 8266) is
connected to the microcontroller which acts as a medium between the user interface and data
received from the microcontroller. When we are scanning the finger by using finger print readers
this data is go to the microcontroller and the controller is detecting the data. Status of different
appliances are also reflected locally on 20x4 LCD display which is interfaced with Arduino. The
required lights are turned on/off automatically by detecting the light outside the house. The user
can also monitor the electric appliances through the internet via web server. If the lights or any
electrical appliances are left on in hurry can be seen and turned off by your android mobile phone.

ADAVANTAGES

1.Efficient and time saving

The machine-to-machine interaction provides better efficiency, hence; accurate results can be
obtained fast. This results in saving valuable time. Instead of repeating the same tasks every day,
it enables people to do other creative jobs.
2. Automation and Control

Due to physical objects getting connected and controlled digitally and centrally with wireless
infrastructure, there is a large amount of automation and control in the workings. Without human
intervention, the machines are able to communicate with each other leading to faster and timely
output.

3. Time

As hinted in the previous examples, the amount of time saved because of IoT could be quite
large. And in today’s modern life, we all could use more time.

4. Money

IoT fundamentally proves to be very helpful to people in their daily routines by making the
appliances communicate to each other in an effective manner thereby saving and conserving
energy and cost. Allowing the data to be communicated and shared between devices and then
translating it into our required way, it makes our systems efficient.

DISAVANTAGE

1.Compatibility

Currently, there is no international standard of compatibility for the tagging and monitoring
equipment. I believe this disadvantage is the most easy to overcome. The manufacturing
companies of these equipment just need to agree to a standard, such as WiFi, USB, etc. This is
nothing new or innovative needed.

2. Reliability

A smart home will be extremely reliant on your internet connection. If your connection drops you’ll
be left with a lot of smart products that won’t work. Additionally, wireless signals can possibly be
interrupted by other electronics in your home and cause some of your smart products to function
slowly or not at all

3. Privacy/Security
With all of this IoT data being transmitted, the risk of losing privacy increases. For instance, how
well encrypted will the data be kept and transmitted with? Do you want your neighbors or
employers to know what medications that you are taking or your financial situation?
