Greatest
Fourth in
the North
is a blast
There are lots of things to love about
Lake City’s Greatest 4th in the North.
There’s carnival, parades, fair food,
fireworks and a craft show.
But what makes it the greatest?
It might just be the free car.
This year’s freebie is especially out-
doorsy, a good fit for Northern Michigan.
Lake City’s Chamber of Commerce
Executive Director, Heather Jensen, an-
nounced the car that will be raffled off
during Greatest 4th in the North this
year is a 2019 AWD Chevy Equinox, pur-
chased from Classic Chevy and complete
with a rack and two kayaks.
A car is raffled off every year; last
year’s was a Chevy Camaro.
By the time On the Go lands in your
hands, the raffle is likely to have already
started.
Many area businesses will sell the raf-
fle tickets, which are three for $10.
It’s not all-or-nothing — if you don’t
win the Chevy Equinox, you may win
an overnight casino stay or a 3D map of
Lake Missaukee.
The drawing will be held on Saturday,
July 6.
If you prefer good old shoe leather to
get you around town, you’ll also get a
chance to show off how fast you can run;
Greatest 4th in the North hosts a 2k, a 5k
and a 10k.
Some details of the festival were still
being finalized at print deadline; for
more information, visit https://lakec-

Greatest 4th in the North is July 3 - 6 in

Crossroads Festival:
A focus on the kids
A fun-filled weekend is in store for all
ages at the Reed City Great American
Crossroads Celebration.
The fun kicks off on Aug. 15 and runs
through Aug. 17, with traditional events
like the children’s carnival and parade
and new events like a pet pageant and
kickball games.
While an exact schedule is still being
“hashed out,” said GACC President Am-
ber Hutchinson, and locations are still
being negotiated, Hutchinson wants as
much downtown this year as possible.
“We are still in the early planning
stages,” she said,”but the goal is to get as
much downtown and bring as many peo-
ple to our downtown area as possible.”
One thing, set in stone from last year,
will be the return of the Irish dancers
performing in the parade and a showcase
after the parade.
This year, to add to the tradition,
Hutchinson said the Crossroads commit-
tee hopes to provide more in the way of
things for the kids to do along with the
children’s carnival.
“Things are still being decided on, but
it is a focus to provide more in the way of
the children’s events,” said Hutchinson.
At this time, a lot could still change but
Hutchinson is excited to get this year’s
festivities going.
“The goal is always to provide a good
event for the community,” Hutchinson
said. “It brings people in from all over.
People know out the festival and that
brings a lot of people back to the town
each year, which means our goal has to
be to put on a good event.”
For more information on the event as
things develop, visit the GACC Facebook
page or www.reedcity.org.
