SYLLABUS

CROSS-BORDER INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LITIGATION

Professor Neil Netanel
Spring 2019

Reading Materials: Required materials are: (1) Paul Goldstein & Marketa Trimble,
International Intellectual Property Law (4th edition) [abbreviated "G" in this syllabus], and
(2) materials on MyLaw.

NOTE: the MyLaw readings are numbered to correspond with the Class Meeting numbers
listed below.

Final Exam and Grade: The final exam will be a three-hour in-class exam composed of a
mix of multiple choice and essay questions. You will have the opportunity to explain up to
25 percent of your multiple choice answers. The grade will be based entirely on the final
exam, except that I reserve the right to add the maximum amount allowed under law school
rules for quality class participation and to subtract the maximum allowable amount for
students who are repeatedly unprepared when I call on them and/or who repeatedly miss
class. NOTE: Given the required the law school curve, an addition or subtraction for class
participation for one student may, in some cases, affect another student’s grade.

Office Hours and How to Reach Me: I am usually available to meet with students
immediately following class. You may also arrange to come to see me at any another
mutually convenient time. My office is 3376 and my telephone number is 825-1634. My
email address is netanel@law.ucla.edu. Feel free to send me questions or comments by
email.
