Changeover of operation from

parallel to CDU 1st stage desalter to parallel to 2nd stage desalter

1. Reduce the crude flow to 30m3/hr at control valve FV-1101.

2. Stop the MP steam flow at control valve TV-1101.
3. Stop the wash water flow at control valve FT-1102 to the desalter to maintain the level in
desalter by LT-1103. Stop wash water pump by stopping the power supply.
4. Stop the power supply to transformer PDB & turn-off the knob at power supply panel.
5. Isolate the crude at the B/L by closing I/Vs 12 & 13.
6. Isolate the crude O/L to 2nd stage desalter inlet by closing I/V 16 & 17.
7. Start draining of desalter hold up into the CBD and continue draining till pressure in the
system is 15 kg/cm2g.
8. Open I/V 14 & 15.
9. Open tie-in point I/V which joins prototype desalter o/l crude to d/s of 2nd stage desalter
10. This completes lineup from operation in parallel to 1st stage of desalter to 2nd stage of
desalter.
11. Allow crude at a rate 20 m3/h and continue draining from desalter to CBD till the salt
content in the CBD sample matches with the salt content of 1st stage desalter outlet
sample. At this point the pressure in the desalter gradually rises and attains equilibrium
with 1st stage desalter pressure.
12. Open the isolation valves of demulsifier and wash water respectively
13. Start wash water pump and demulsifier injection
14. When crude and water level are 70 and 30 % respectively as indicated by LT-1102,LT-
1103 and LT-1106, line up the o/l crude by opening the I/v 18 &19. Also ensure tie in
point I/V as indicated in point no.12
15. close all CBD’s used for draining crude
16. Start MP steam and maintain its flow rate (using control valve TV-1101) to maintain the
crude inlet temperature after exchanger E-101 at 130◦ C
17. Switch on the power supply to transformers TR-101, TR-102 & TR 103 ensuring smooth
operation.
