1. Purpose
- To inform all ASCs of information regarding boot recovery process for:

AP: MSM8216 (Qualcomm)


 SM-A300H, A500H
 SM-E500H, E700H
AP: MSM8239 (Qualcomm)
 SM-A700H

2. Symptom
 No Power up / Not powering on
 Unable to enter download mode

3. Instruction

- Brief Process overview

1) Download boot recovery pit and bootloader to SDcard using "normal phone"

2) Insert the SDcard to "no power phone" and try to enter download mode

- Pre-requisites
1) Micro SD card

→ Type of SDcard should be ‘SDHC’ or higher type, and capacity should be


4GB or more.

2) Normal Device to download boot recovery pit and bootloader to SDcard

3) Full SW binary (pit, BL, AP, CP, CSC*)

*BL: Bootloader
AP: Application Processor (PDA / main OS files)
CP: Call Processor (MODEM or Phone files)
CSC: Customer Software Configuration
PIT: Partition Information Table

4) Pit and bootloader

→ Pit : MSM8x16_8x39_boot_recovery.pit
Bootloader : normal bootloader (BL) for each model

- Boot Recovery Process


<1. SW download>
1-1) Download full S/W files (BL, AP, CP, CSC) to the "normal" device.

<2. Make a SD card for recovery>

Note: If you already have made / have available an SDcard for boot recovery previously by
following steps 2.1 to 2.6 , you can proceed to Part 3. <3. Enter download mode on the
"faulty" device >

2-1) Run Odin3 v3.09.3.exe

2-2) Load “MSM8x16_8x39_boot_recovery.pit” in PIT tap and normal bootloader file in BL tap.
2-3) Check in the "T Flash" option box to enable "T Flash" option.
2-4) Insert SDcard to normal phone and enter download mode.
2-5) Connect the phone to PC.

2-6) Click Start button to download pit and bootloader to SDcard.


→ If it’s PASS, SDcard was successfully made for boot recovery.
→ If it’s FAIL, try to this with another SD card. (SD card defective)

<3. Boot recovery for damaged device>


3-1) Insert SDcard to ‘No Power’ phone.
3-2) Enter download mode, using ‘Volume down’ + ‘Home’ + ‘Power’ key.
3-3) If the phone is successfully recovered, phone will enter download mode.

3-4) After entering download mode, download full S/W to the phone including pit,
Bootloader (BL), AP (PLATFORM), CP (MODEM), and CSC.
