Module One Reflection

Doing module one has showed me that I am definitely technologically inclined.
Throughout the this whole process I have struggled with just about everything. The six word
memoir almost made me cry and once we started building our own website my anxiety went
through the roof. I tend to get frustrated with technology quite easily and I am doing my best to
learn to be more patient with it. Although this work does sometime frustrate me it is very
essential for my career in education. Technology has become a huge part of education in
today's world and being able to use it is now a necessary skill. Technology has proven to be a
useful skill in the field of education and it continues to become an integral part of every
classroom. Students use computers to do research for projects, they use tablets for science
projects. They even watch educational videos in the classroom. While technology has made it
easier in the classroom, some say i may have made the classroom to easy. Students can pretty
much find the answer to anything online. With that being an option, why would any child actually
put in the work to find the answers. Children have become use to the thought of using tablets
and laptops for their classwork. This in turn now limits the use of actual handwritten work in the
classroom. If all children do is come to class and pull out their tablets to do work, then what is
the point of making them come to school. They could just stay home and do their work.
Technology has also reduced the social complex in a certain aspect. Conversations in today's
world now happens over social media and text messaging. People no longer have
conversations face to face anymore. This leads to many people not developing the skills needed
to have conversations in person. If children are staring at a screen all day, they will never know
what it is like to have face to face conversations. Many parents use tablets as a distraction for
children, when they have things they need to tend to. While doing this is not necessarily a bad
thing, it truly depends on the content the child is playing or watching. If a child is doing
something educational during the time then it can be looked at as a good thing, but if a child is
just watching funny videos on youtube for hours then that can be detrimental. Technology has
proven to be very useful in all aspects of life, but a balance is definitely needed especially for
children. Education has taken the realm of technology and introduced into the classroom in
more ways than one. While it helps teachers and makes work easier, it should not be used all
the time. A balance is needed and the earlier children learn the better it will be for them in the
long run.
