POWAY — Family and friends remembered a woman killed in
a shooting at a Southern California synagogue as a generous
person dedicated to spreading kindness, with her daughter
telling the crowd Monday that she knows her mother would
forgive the man who took her life as she worshipped.
A memorial service for Lori Kaye, 60, drew a packed congre-
gation, including the three people wounded in the attack, fed-

Kaye’s daughter Hannah said she knows in her heart that her
mother has forgiven the 19-year-old man who killed her

at the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland,
changed his plea Monday to not guilty by reason of insani-
ty.
Lawyers for Jarrod Ramos said in a court filing that the
39-year-old Ramos was not criminally responsible
“because of a mental disorder.”
Five people were fatally shot in June 2018 in the Capital
Gazette newsroom. Ramos was indicted on 23 charges in the
attack, including first-degree murder. Ramos had initially
pleaded not guilty, and the change of plea filed Monday
maintains the not guilty plea.
