For and Against Essay

Mobile Phones

Mobile phones are a common thing among people due to their omnipresence in our lives. They are
an useful thing and many people may say they could not imagine a world without mobile phones. Is
this a sign that the mobile phones have become addictive unknowingly?

These are some of the advantages mobile phones brought in our lives:

First of all, we use mobile phones to communicate with each other, this also being the first of their
aims. Now we can talk to a person on the other side of the world in real-time, without being obliged
to wait the response for weeks or even months like people did in the Ancient time. We are also able
to send text messages and media contents.

Second of all, with the technology of mobile phones being improved more and more every week, a
large percent of mobiles have a large number of functions and applications such as camera (you can
take pictures and record videos of high definition), music player (you can listen to music anytime,
anywhere), hundreds of games you can play when you are bored, Internet access (the world opens to
you if you have a mobile with this function: you can download music, games, videos, pictures and
also you can use it for your undone homework in the school breaks). 

Third of all, if you have an emergency and you are in the middle of nowhere but you have a mobile
phone, you can be rescued within minutes or hours. This is a big advantage because even if you do
not have signal to call your parents, the 911 call has signal almost everywhere.

On the other side, mobile phones have disadvantages too:

First of all, many people use mobiles as their primary way to communicate with the others. Some of
them just avoid to speak face to face to other people opting for calling them on the phone. There are
some dissenting voices who say that communication through mobile phones ruins the real, face to
face communication, relationships between people being wiped out.

Second of all, it is a known fact that mobile phones became addictive to each and every youngster
and even to some adults. Tell a teen you will confiscate his or her mobile phone and he or she will
freak out after one minute without it.

Third of all, the prices of mobile phones are higher and higher and you have to spend a fortune to buy
one of those ‘’smart’’ phones. Moreover, mobile phones have lately become a fashion accessory
especially among teenagers: the more money you blow on your mobile phones, the more popular
you are.

Taking everything into account, mobile phones are a necessity for people and they are not harmful as
long as we do not become addicted to them and we do not let them affect the relationships with the
other people by making us unable to converse face to face.
