Leeds Cathedral is to hold the second LEEDS INTERNATIONAL ORGAN FESTIVAL this summer.
Between 13th May and 10th July, organists young and old will have the opportunity to hear, meet
and perform alongside renowned international concert organists who will join The local resident
team. A range of music from Bach to theatre organ repertoire will be played on the Cathedral’s
magnificent Klais organ, with other events in Huddersfield and Ossett, showcasing some of the
finest instruments in West Yorkshire. There is much to delight players, singers and music
enthusiasts alike over the Festival’s two months: masterclasses with some of the world’s most
distinguished professors of organ, in addition to lunchtime recitals and evening concerts. For the
first time, young players from the Diocese of Leeds Organists’ Training Programme will perform in
Leeds Cathedral. Singers will be welcome, too, at the Cathedral’s ‘Come and Sing Haydn’ day in
June. Alongside these performances, the Festival will include an evening with the world-famous
composer Sir James MacMillan, interviewed by Richard Mantle, General Director of Opera North.

Sometimes an overcrowded schedule and an overloaded agenda can be a symptom

of fear. We are running around, always trying to please people, always angry
because too much is expected of us. We are angry on the surface, but underneath
we are afraid to stop, to slow our wretched pace, to confront ourselves. We are
afraid we mightn’t be loved enough.

At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet.
