Hinduism Assignments- Detailed

Every group member will present their projects. Present- do not just read your project to the
class.
Everything needs to be in your own words. Any plagiarism will result in a 0 that cannot be made
up.

Assignments can each be done by 1-5 students. Decide who will do which assignments. Have
each member sign below on the assignment they will be doing. Groups need to sign up for 6 of
the 7 assignments.

All groups need to have a key for their informational ​handout​ including the highlights and
important features of your religion.

1. ​Slideshow-​ Create a slideshow highlighting the customs, tenets, and history of the religion of
Hinduism
Title Slide​- don’t forget to include your name
Slide :​ Brief description of the religion
Slide :​ Important vocabulary- at least 10 words- Dharma, Atman, Brahmin,Varna
Slide: ​History- How was Hinduism started? Who were the important founding groups and
regions? Why was it started? How does reincarnation relate to christianity?
Slide​: What is Hinduism’s relationship with other religions in India such as Sikhism and Jainism?
Compare and contrast all 3.
Slide:​ Who are the main deities of Hinduism? Name and describe at least 3. What is Karma to
Hindus? How does it work? How is it different from that way it is used in the west?
Slide: ​What are the customs of Hinduism? Include: wedding, funeral, meditation, Bhakti, various
food customs
Slide: ​How do they pray? Who do they pray to?
Slide:​ What symbols are used in Hinduism? What do they mean? Describe the Om and Sri
Chakra (Yantra)
Slide: ​What is the guiding doctrine/text? What are the main points?
Slide: ​What are major Hindu holidays? Describe 3
Slide:​ Leadership- What are the leadership positions? What are Sanyasi and what roles do they
have? Do they worship god/s?
Slide:​ Do they go to a temple? What does that look like? How do they worship?
Slide: ​Afterlife- What do they believe happens when you die? Is there a way to gain forgiveness
for one's sins?
Slide: ​Current Members- How many members are currently practicing? How does membership
impact their political beliefs? (2-3 examples)

2. ​Narrative-​ Find a story written by a Hindu that focuses on a custom or tenet of the religion.
Create a word web of the important themes and aspects of Hinduism presented in the story
3. ​Interactive Timeline- ​Create a timeline representing major events or important people of
your religion. Include 7 important events and 3 important people.
When presenting you will need to accurately describe each event in 3-4 sentences. Your
presentation should be about 5 minutes. You may use note cards in addition to your timeline.

4. ​Animation-​ Write and create an animated demonstration for how a typical Hindu would
celebrate Diwali. (3-5 minutes) *remember to be very respectful. If you have questions about the
appropriateness of your animation ideas make sure to ask.

5.​ ​Current events​-​ Find a current event related to Hinduism within the last 3 months. Write a
page response including a summary and a section including your opinion on the event.

Paragraph 1: Summary of the article (7 sentences)
Paragraph 2: Initial thoughts (7 sentences)
Paragraph 3: Further research and connection (7 sentences)- how does this current event
connect to other aspects of your religion? How does the current event portray your religion? Is
there anything you had to look up to clarify?
6. ​Artifact analysis-​ Analyze the given artifacts and present findings to class. Describe what
they are and their meanings. Include: Bindi, Tilak, Banana Trees, shrines
