1) The minimum wage is different by provinces and by industries. It is higher in big cities. The minimum wage
in Cambodia is for the Garment industry only; it is the highest paid industry.There are not enough jobs
in Cambodia. About 2 million Cambodians have been working in Thailand, Korea, and other Asian countries.
Why would the Khmer people leave Cambodia to earn about $1/hr in Thailand?
2) Thailand's economy has been doing very well with 0.9% unemployment. 38 million tourists came in 2018.
There are not enough Thais who want the manual jobs; it is why they hire 4 million migrant workers from
Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos. The average growth rate in Thailand in the past 20 years is reduced to < 2%.
There are 2 real problems: no Democracy and Wealth Inequality. The wealth inequality is the highest in
the world -- the richest 1% controls 67% of the wealth. If these issues are improved, the growth rate
would have been at least 5%.
