Multidirectional pot bearings, type A While deciding what type of bearing to choose, the design-
ing engineer must determine whether the bearings should
be fixed or moveable in one or more horizontal directions.
On page 6 there are suggested combinations of pot bearings
for different kinds of bridge structures. It is also important
to define whether adjacent structures are made of steel or
concrete.

The restraint moment is found using this formula: 9–11. If the horizontal load exceeds the table values, the
engineer should perform the following calculation:
MTOT = MH + Memax + Mµmax
If Vmin actual < Vmin table the Hmax must be reduced according to
the following formula;
Memax and Mµmax can be added up as the vectorial sum. How-
ever, a straightforward addition will always keep you safe. Hmax actual = Hmax table – 0,2 (Vmin table - Vmin actual)

General description
The TOBE® pot bearings are supplied with four pcs of
150 mm long, Ø35/50 mm dowels both on the upper and
the lower bearing plates. For use in steel structures, the
bearings are delivered without dowels and bolts. The dowel
position is described in the tables on pages 9 – 11, referring
to the different bearing types.
