Objectives:
To relate the structure and composition of the cell membrane and its function.
Distinguish prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells according to their distinguish features
Materials
Microscope
Slide, cover slip
Hand-held lens
Water
Popsicle stick
Hydrilla plants
Procedure:
1. Compare animal cells from plant cells.
2. For the animal cells, scrape your inner cheek using a Popsicle stick.
3. Place the scrapping on a slide and add a drop of water. Tease the scrapings into a thin
layer and cover with a slip.
4. Position under microscope. Examine under HPO.
5. Draw the specimen and label the cell parts.
6. For the plant cells, scrape the hydrilla leaf and place it on a microscope slide.
7. Add water and tease it into thin layer. Cover it with slip.
8. Position under microscope. Examine under LPO.
9. Draw
Data/Results:
The animal cell has no cell wall while the plant cell has a cell wall. This includes that both
plant cell and animal cell are eukaryotic cells because it has a nucleus that regulates the
other parts of the cell like the golgi bodies, endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria and others.
But the differences between those two is that the plant has a chloroplast and has a cell wall.
Analysis/Discussion:
Plant cell has a chloroplast for the process of photosynthesis and also has a large vacuole
that can store a full tank of water while the animal cell has no cell wall and only cell
membrane that let the nutrients come in and out. Animal and plant cell have different
shapes.
Conclusion:
Consequently, these two types of cell has a similarities and differences. We, humans belong
to the animal cell because we don’t have chloroplast in our cells and also has no cell wall in
our cells. These cells multiply until we die so, we should take care of our body before it’s too
late. Sleep early so that our body cells can rest well and in the morning it can work or
perform better.
