What is something you learned from this training?
9 responses

I learned more about the different laws that affect undocumented people

I learned how to guide an undocumented student with the correct words

That there are multiple faculty members and resources on Campus that can be utilized.

I learned that speaking out about undocumented as a word is important to let people know they can trust you

California allows those without documentation, to apply for a drivers license

It is really important to create and have an environment where students who are undocumented feel safe and
comfortable to speak out and reach out for anything from our Whittier College community. As a person who is a part of
this community, we never know who might be and might not be undocumented and that's exactly why its important to
have workshops such as these that show everyone that the rest of us are willing to listen and help.

The difference between undocumented and AB540 students

One of the most important things I learned was the things to say and not to say to people who open up to being
undocumented. I recognize now that when someone opens up about that, they trust that you will not tell others and offer
them support.

I learned the resources that the school provides for undocumented students.

What is something you will do with the information you've learned from this
event?

I will utilize it in my interactions with other students on campus

I want to have this training be implemented into RA training

I plan on using my leadership position to create a program that informs the campus on the proper term and resources
available

make my support my support more vocal

be more sensitive when speaking about undocumented students and share my knowledge with others who are willing to
learn. i will also make it a priority for M.E.Ch.A next year to advocate for undocupoets and hold safe spaces for them to
ask for resources

If I ever encounter a situation where an undocumented person tells me their situation or non Whittier College students
asks me about the environment and attitude towards undocumented people at our school, I will be able to point out the
different resources we discussed.

I will apply the legislation I learned to my fellowship this summer.

I have family members who are undocumented and my goal is to offer them assistance in understanding the
organizations that are supporting them and knowing that they are not alone.
Using social media, I plan to publicly take a stance and declare that I want to be an ally to undocumented students
because it is important for those students to feel heard.

Would you recommend this training to others? Why?

Yes, it was extremely informative and gave good action steps for the future.

I would because it’s helpful for others because it’s good for faculty members and student workers to know this info as
they may encounter undocumented students

Yes. It is important to u feet and the struggles that undocumented students go through and how to be a good ally.

absolutely, this should be imperative for all staff on campus including CA's. This would help people create a more
welcoming atmosphere for undocumented students and also help in how to be the best ally

yess!!! it has taught me so much about how to approach certain situations and what language to use!

Yes, because talking about the resources in the OEI is really important to know and also could be something that could
help someone who might feel like no one cares about them or their well-being.

Yes because it accurately depicted the unknown struggles undocumented students face.

I would de nitely recommend this training to other students because many people react in the wrong ways towards
people who are undocumented and as said in the presentation, when we make their status public we take away the
power they had. Also, with understanding their status we should be able to know what to say and not necessarily ask the
wrong questions.

Yes I would because I feel like not a lot of people on campus are aware of the amount of undocumented students we
have.
