INTERNATIONAL STUDENT
YOUR STUDENT
CARD IS ALSO YOUR
LIBRARY CARD
You need your card to get into the building and
to borrow books. Just swipe your card on the
turnstiles at the entrance to get into the Library.
Log in into your library account for a range of
services such as renewing your books and
requesting items on loan to another person or
not available at this Library. Look for the “Your
Library Account” link on the Library homepage
www.glasgow.ac.uk/library
OPENING HOURS
We’re open from 07:15 until 02:00, 361 days of
the year.
TAKE A TOUR
We offer guided tours every week throughout
the year. These are a great way to find your way
around the Library and to get the information you
need from an experienced member of staff. Ask
Library Services staff, or check the Library
homepages, for links to booking a tour online.
FINDING BOOKS AND
JOURNALS YOU NEED
To find books, e-books, journals and databases,
use QuickSearch on the Library homepage. Type
in keywords or the title of the book or journal and
results will appear on the screen. If you are
looking for articles on a subject, click on the
Articles tab on the home page and once again
type in keywords. If you know the title of the
article you are looking for, type it in.
BORROWING AND
RETURNING BOOKS
To borrow, renew and return books, use the
self-service machines in the Library. Staff at
Library Services can help you with any enquiries
you have.

HIGH DEMAND BOOKS
The High Demand Collection is located on Level
3, and contains popular books, such as those
on your reading list. Books from this collection
can be borrowed for 24 hours or 4 hours. High
Demand is a self-service area, with machines
for borrowing and returning books. Don’t worry
though; if you have any questions then staff will
be happy to help.
USING ELECTRONIC
RESOURCES
Most of our electronic resources are available
both on and off campus, 24 hours a day, using
your GUID. This is the username and password
you get when you register at the University. It is
also used to access services such as MyCampus,
webmail and Moodle.
HELP AND SUPPORT IN
YOUR SUBJECT AREA
Each subject has a librarian who can help you
find information and how to use databases
effectively. You can book an appointment online
through MyCampus Students or use the link on
the Library home page.
You can visit our Maps, Official Publications &
Statistics Unit on Level 7. Staff at the enquiry
desk can give you help and advice on government
documents, EU information and maps.
OTHER LIBRARIES
Apart from the University Library, there’s the
Adam Smith Library for Social Sciences in the
Adam Smith Building; Chemistry Library in the
Joseph Black Building; James Herriot Library for
Veterinary Medicine at Garscube; James Ireland
Library for Dentistry in the Dental School on
Sauchiehall Street; the Library Research Annexe
at Saracen Street, and the University Archives -

TAKE A BREAK
It’s not only about studying – the Library is a
great place to take some time out, have a break
and meet friends for coffee or lunch. Our Food
in Focus café is on Level 3, and snacks are
also available from vending machines near the
LoungeLab, and in the Rest and Be Thoughtful
area on Level 4.
COLLECTIONS
The Library’s collections cover most branches of
the arts, sciences, social sciences and medicine.
They are complemented by the rare books,
manuscripts and early photographs in our special
collections department:

Our Archive Services hold records documenting
the history of the University since 1451 and history
of Scottish businesses since the late 1700s:

PRINTING
You can scan, print and photocopy throughout
the Library, using the MFDs. Swipe your student
card over the “Pull Print” logo on the machines,
then select either ‘Print’, ‘Scan’ or ‘Copy’. You
need to pay for print credits before you can print.
Log into MyGlasgow to buy print credits online.

STUDY SPACES
Study spaces in the building are zoned red,
amber and green to indicate silent, quiet and
group study areas. Posters on each level will tell
you what to expect in that zone and help you
chose a study environment to suit you. There are
also group study rooms located throughout the
building.

LIBRARYTREE
librarytree is a fun way to interact with the Library. Register at
librarytree.gla.ac.uk to take part in challenges and earn virtual
points and badges. You’ll be rewarded for doing things like
visiting the Library, borrowing & returning items and writing
reviews. Find your friends on librarytree and earn bonus points
– check in with friends and share or recommend something
you’ve read. A librarytree app is available for Android and
Apple devices.
