GLOBALISATION

Globalization is a vast term which is used to explain the exchange of knowledge and goods
around the globe. The terms globalization explains the integration of economies around the
world. Globalization describes a process by which national and regional economies, societies,
and cultures have become integrated through the global network of trade, communication,
immigration and transportation. In more recent past globalization was often focused on the
economic side which included trade, foreign direct investments, and international capitals flows.
But now, in recent times we can notice that globalization is not limited to the economic side. The
spread of globalization in every field is enormous. It include broader range of areas and activities
such as culture, media, technology , socio cultural and even biological factors.

There are basically three types of globalization which includes economical, cultural and
social or political globalization. The term globalization first emerged from the economical
globalization. It included the exchange of goods and other commodities with the help of trade
practices amongst the nations around the globe. The economical globalization also includes
foreign direct investments. Due to economical globalization many of the foreign companies
setup their manufacturing plants in other countires leading to investments in other countries.
Cultural globalization includes exchange of thoughts and cultures across the countries boundary.
Many of the indian festivals are being celebrated in other foreign countries as a result of cultural
globalization. Political globalization has given rise to the organisations such as united nations.
Thus globalization as a whole has effected the entire life of the people around the globe.

Globalisation has both positive as well as negative aspects. As globalization promoted

exchange of ideas, at the same time it resulted in the loss of authenticity. Culture is basically the
idea, customs and social behavior of people belonging to particular community or country.
Globalization has resulted to the exchange of culture. As we come across many of the indian
festivals are celebrated in other nations. Festivals such as Ganesh Chaturti is celebrated in
Singapore. But at the same time india is also adopting the western culture. This results into the
loss of authenticity of the indian festivals. In india itself people are ignoring the traditional indian
festivals and adopting the foreign festival such as valentines day and many more.

Globalisation has also led to women empowerment. At first womens were not given the same
rights as that of men. But due to globalization this scenario has been changed. Gender equality
has come into the picture. But we could see that feminism is increasing day by day to such an
extent that people are seem to take adverse benefits of feminism. Improper usage of rights is
often practiced due to globalization.

Job opportunities are largely being developed by globalization. Students from the
underdeveloped or developing counties get better job opportunies in developed countries. But
this has stopped the development of underdeveloped nations. Human resource from the
underdeveloped nation is being shifted to developed nations . As a result, the developed nation
are developing more and the under developed would remain same forever.

Import export is the result of economical globalization. This could be the advantage of
globalization as countries which do not have their owm resource can import it from other which
have it in plenty. This ensures that entire world is able to have access to all goods. But this has
also resulted into the hoarding of goods by some developed nations. As we know oil is available
in plenty in gulf countries. Many of the countries across the world import oil from the gulf
countries. But USA which also has its own oil resource is hoardind the good and importing it
from gulf countries and saving it for future when depletion of resource will take place.

Globalization has also led to the exchange of knowledge both in positive as well as negative
ways. It has led to the formation of nuclear weapon. Nuclear weapon used for self protection is
good but some nations are using it to create chaos around the world. Improper use of nuclear
weapon is currently being done by north korea. This has resulted into the situation of third world
war.

Globalization has also made mass production possible. Machine age has flourished a lot due to
globalization. Producing in large quantities and exporting it has resulted into the development of
economy. Human work load has been reduced drastically. This has resulted into the exploitation
of the labour. As all the work is been carried out on machines requirement of skilled labour has
been reduced. As a result many of the labours are now jobless. It has resulted into the
unemployment of the skilled labour. Earlier before the use of machine, the cloth used to be
stiched by the skilled labour. Manufacturing of one cloth used to require 3 to 4 labours. But as it
is now replaced by machines the same work is being done by 1 labour. As a result the amount of
worker required to do the same job has reduced. Though globalization resulted in mass
production , it has also resulted in to unemployment. Mass production has also resulted into
theaffordibility. The cost of hand made cloth is comparatively higher than that of the machine
made cloth of same quality. Thus globalization has also led to the affordability of the product.
Due to the mass production same quality of cloth is now available at a cheaper rate than earlier.

Mass production has also lead to the wastage of resources. The quantity of supply and demand is
not matching resulting in the loss of material and ultimately the resources. It has resulted in the
exploitation of resources. Many of the non renewable resources are used in plenty resulting in the
exploitation of resources. Production factories are using the resources without caring about the
future depletion that will take place.

Globalisation has also increased the standard of living to great extent. Use of branded goods is
made possible with the help of globalization. It resulted to the indroduction of brands such as
levis etc in clothing industry. Using branded cloths is now considered to br superior. As a result
the basic indian brands are shutting down. Thus globalistion is leading the progress of the ones
who are already progressed. Thus in globalization rich are getting more rich and poor are getting
more poor.

Globalisation has also led to the technological advancement to a great extent. Technology has
advanced so much that one can now make video call miles away. New technologies are being
developed and also shared amongst the nations resulting into the overall development of entire
world. Advancements in mobile phones, cars has seen a tremendous growth in past decade. Till
1990’s phones were not even introduced to the world and now the phone seems to replace the
computers. But this advancement is also negatively affecting the world. The use of technology is
being madeby the terrorist groups. Hacking of government data is done, which ultimately leads
to the terrorist attacks.

Social media has also led to the spread of globalization to a large extent. Use of internet is a
boon for spreading of globalization. Everything is now just a one click away. We get the news of
whats happening in one corner of the world by just clicking. Internet also had adverse effects.
People sometime circulates the contents misleading to the individuals. Internet is also used by
terrorist groups to influence the young mind and including them in the terrosist groups. It also
leads to human trafficking. It has also given rise to cyber crimes. The over exposure of media has
lead uncontrolled acess to informations for teenagers.

Globalizations leads to the pollution. Rise of new factories are depleting the natural resources
and resulting in great pollution. Emergence of green technology has taken place due to
globalization. Awarness regarding the pollution caused is increasing. It has resulted to the
development of green technology. Efforts are now being made to reduce the pollution.

Globalization has also lead to the migration of people. People are moving from villages to
cites in search of jobs and employment. Cross country migration has also resulted in search of
jobs. Migration has lead to the health issues in the country. Epedimic desieses are turning out to
be endemic. If a person having some disease migrates to other region the disease gets spreading
in that region. But it is due to globalization that cure to such disease has been found. Scientist of
some country find the cure and it is been transferred across the world. Thus globalization proves
to be a boon for improving the health of individuals.

Organisations such as united nations have come up as a result of globalization. These

organisations are set so as to eliminate the disputes between the countries and maintaining the
peace around the world.

Thus globalization has proved to be positive in terms of exchange of knowledge and culture
but at the same time the negative effects that it has are also adversely affecting the nations.
