ERGONOMICS ENVIRONMENT PROJECT

Business Report

Ergonomics
Ergonomics is the designing, arranging and planning of workplaces, products and systems
so that it best fit the people who are using it. Every design which involves people has to do with
ergonomics. Ergonomics also keeps the workplace safe, apart from Musculoskeletal Injuries*, and
Carpal Tunnel Syndromes(A.K.A. CTS)**; at the same time making the person using it feel
comfortable, improving productivity.
*Musculoskeletal Injuries (A range of disorders involving muscles, bones, tendons, blood
vessels, nerves and other soft tissues[Oxford Dictionary])
**Carpal Tunnel Syndromes (A common condition that causes pain, numbness, and
tingling in the hand and arm. The condition occurs when one of the major nerves to the hand —
the median nerve — is squeezed or compressed as it travels through the wrist)at the same time
making the person using it feel comfortable[orthoinfo.org])

 Why Invest In Ergonomics?
Businesses should invest in ergonomics, Ergonomics creates a safe, desirable, productive and
comfortable workspace, by bringing considering the limitations of humans into the design of a
workspace. The cost of investing in ergonomics is, of course, the actual cost(money) it takes to
install ergonomically designed workplaces and object. Nevertheless, the layout & design take time
to figure, and the instalment also takes time. The money will not be spent in vain, however, as
there are multiple different good aspects of it, such as the prevention of Musculoskeletal Injuries,
mental disorders etc. as mentioned previously.
Not investing in ergonomics may result in consequences such as back and neck pain,
fracture, caused by long-term Musculoskeletal Injuries. Moreover, it would lower work
effectualness, increasing stress in both the muscles and the brain. When it comes to the scenario
of employees working for a company, the chairman/entrepreneur of the company is lawfully
responsible for the ergonomics for the working environment. If there is ever injuries caused by
the physical design of the workplace, it is the responsibility of the company to provide necessary
treatment/or to be lawfully responsible.

effectual manner possible.

 Reason to Install

iMac Pro-Teacher’s computer(Server)

A powerful computer is necessary to take
control of a network.
And to further increase the productivity of the
teacher, and to manipulate 18 nodes and more
than 5 different users in each, the server
computer has to be more powerful.
If the server becomes crappy, then the students’
computer would likely malfunction/become
more crappy. Therefore, the productivity of the
students all depend on the server as well.
To store all the students’ work, and keep all the
teaching material, a large storage is also
needed.
With one of the best computer chip ever The retina 5k LED display is also
created, 256 gigabytes of RAM, and 4 terabytes less harmful to the eyes, lowering
of solid storage, the iMac pro best fits the job as chances for eye damages
the server.

Mac Mini-Students’ computer

In order to run powerful softwares such as Final Cut Pro X for
courses such as Media Arts, a relatively powerful computer is
needed for students to guarantee smoothness and respondence, to
ultimately increase productivity.
For the use of a couple of different users, a relatively big storage
is also required.
To increase the stability of the wireless connection between the
students and the teacher, there is a 10 gigabit Ethernet in the Mac
Mini.

Magic Keyboard & Magic Mouse
The Apple Magic Mouse and Keyboard are
all designed ergonomically to maximize the
user’s comfort, with new generation
technologies that may solve for Carpal
Tunnel Syndromes.
With a touch scrolling session on the Magic
Mouse, it best solves the issue of dust
damaging the scrolling wheel.
With batteries that last up to a month, little
recharge is required.
The wireless design truly gives the users less
restrictions and therefore increase
productivity at a reasonable rate.

WLAN modem-Apple Airport Extreme

In order to secure an ultra-fast connection between the
teacher and the student, a powerful and fast modem is
required.
Making sure that there is no tripping over wires, and
complicated wired networks, wireless connections best suit
ergonomic needs.
Recent studies had shown that a cleaner, better-looking rooms
has uses of stress-releasing. Therefore, the wireless connection
will at least reduce the stress to some extent.
The Airport Extreme lets computers run at a speed faster than
most wired connections, especially Macs. Therefore, it will
increase productivity online up to a significant extent.

Class Monitor-Sony LED 85in 4k TV + Wall Mount
Non-commercial projectors can only ensure clarity to a
certain extent, therefore a 85 inch TV could replace it
with ample reasons.
The projector currently in use makes note-taking
somewhat difficult, due to the limited pixels, low
brightness, and little color shown.
Therefore installing a new TV could increase the
productivity of note-taking and teach demonstrations up
to an entirely new level. It may also increase the
students’ learning interest.
The newest LED display and blue-ray option is less
harmful to the eye, and reduces eye stress.
Mounting it on the wall saves space improves the views
from every corner.

Screen Mirroring Device-Apple TV 4k

The Apple TV 4k allows the teacher to airplay to the


TV in 4k quality wirelessly.
The wireless screen mirroring would greatly increase
convenience and make free of injuries and
inconvenience caused by wires.

Student Monitor-Dell Ultrathin™ Monitor LED

The 24 inch full-HD 2k display allows the students to
examine and edit their work in a better vision.
Rather than the current retina LCD display, the LED
technology is less harmful to the eyes.
More pixels on a screen gives students a better idea of
what their work look like, in a clearer fashion.
LCD displays cannot fully display a black color, while
LED has the ability to create a fully black vision. When
it comes to graphic design, it might play a great role.

 Chair-Amazon Mesh Ergonomics Series™ Chair
Ergonomically designed to avoid Musculoskeletal
Injuries
Rather than the current metal chairs, its kevlar and
artificial leather provides more comfort as of long
working hours, and has a longer durability
May increase productivity as of increasing the comfort
and convenience of working.

*There is no need to change the desks, lighting etc. as they fit perfectly as of height, size
and comfort, well suit for ergonomic needs.
**The instalment for the new items mainly aims for a higher productivity for both the
teacher and the students, while maintaining the comfort for sitting, working; as well as aiming for
healthier eye usages; avoiding Carpal Tunnel Syndromes and by installing LED displays and new
generation keyboards/mice.
***The total cost of $110,747 should not exceed the school’s payment zone, due to the fact
that it is only the tuition of approximately 6 high school students!

Final Thoughts
In conclusion, there are multiple aspects of the room that makes it imperfect, as there are
multiple ways to make it better. One of the most important aspect is to make it more
ergonomically suitable and comfortable, in order to ultimately improve productivity and prevent
Musculoskeletal Injuries, including Carpal Tunnel Syndromes. For example, by replacing the
suitable but yet uncomfortable metal chairs into ergonomically designed chairs. By considering
costs and ergonomics in mind, I have found you a perfect plan to refurnish our computer lab.
