NC German Day - 2016, 2017 - NCAATG

- For attending NC German Day at one of a few local colleges against other high schools and
middle schools
- NC German Day is a competition where 500 German students from 22 schools in North
Carolina participate in the competitions and events to showcase their german knowledge.
- I worked all year in class to prepare for some of the competitions and get ready for the trip
- I competed in the trivia competitions, the skits, poem reciting, and extemporaneous
speaking
- I had to memorize poems and essays along with studying random facts for the trivia
competitions
- It was nice to be able to show my knowledge of german as a language and as a culture other
students from different schools

German American Partnership Program (GAPP) - summer 2017 (3 total weeks, 2 with a host family and 1
in Berlin) - GAPP
- Competitive
- I was selected based on my german experience level among the other students who take
german at my high school
- **** not sure how many people applied but people were turned down
- For participating in the exchange program
- All of my years of german had led up to this trip
- It was a very big learning moment in my life and something that I will carry on for the rest of my
life
- I stayed most of my time in a small town near Mannheim called Schwetzingen. It was my
first time to a European country and I was finally exposed to a culture that I had been
learning about almost my whole life. I learned much more about respecting other cultures
and how to make new friends in placed that were very new to me.

Work and Internship Experience

Workplace: Triangle Aquatics LLC Dates: 2018


Title/Role: Lifeguard (Only a summer job, >10 hrs a week depending on when I am scheduled)

Volunteer Work

Host Organization: Camper-In-Leadership-Training (CILT) Program


- I had been a camper at this cap since 1st grade and it has always been a big part of my life. When
I was a younger camper and I had a CILT in my cabin he was very influential to me and changed
my outlook on trying new things and making friends with the other campers. I wanted to pay
forward and help my cmpaers just how my CIlt did when I was young.
Dates: Summer 2017 (4 weeks)
Workplace location: Camp Sea Gull
Role: Assistant to the head counselor in a cabin full of 6-7 year old campers

time there.
- Assisted in running swim lessons and other pool/lake related activities
- Keeping campers under control and happy
- Running cabin activities for campers

Host Organization: Project Phoenix


Dates: summer 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 (site leader) (2 weeks a summer, 3 hrs a week)
Workplace location: Williamsburg Manor Pool
Role: Swim instructor for teaching underprivileged kids (10-12 per session) how to swim for free
List tasks or skills associated with your role and any notable experiences/accomplishments from your
time there.
- I am now the site leader for the location involved with organizing the lesson and finding other
teachers to assist me (2-4 teachers depending on their availability)
- Learning how to work with kids through challenges
- Such as overcoming their fear of the water and making them feel comfortable playing and
putting their face under
- Learning how to work with a child through something that they were previously scared to do
- Many of these children were taught to be scared of the water from a young age for safety
reasons but now trying to overcome that fear is often difficult and a big step for them.

Host Organization: Miracle League of the Triangle


Dates: 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 (3-5 times a year, 3 hrs each time)
Workplace location: Miracle League Baseball Field
Role: A buddy for a disabled child/adult as they are walked through a game of baseball

time there.
- Handling a child/adult with a mental disability
- Learning how to deal with problems that may arise
- I was motivated to continue to do this after I saw how much fun the kids were having. It is not
often that they are able to play sports so being able to provide them with that experience pushed
me to continue to participate with them.

- Founded by my friend Rishi and I who saw a gap in the clubs at our school that we wanted to fill
- Club was founded to make a place where people interested in cars can have a space to talk about
cars and grow their passion
- Planning on creating a space at Enoe to discuss car culture as a whole and in our community
- Planning local car meets

organize car events for students
- The club was created last school year and will be put into place this next school year
- We are predicting over 20 members

- Create a club (see “Car Club”, above)
- Watch videos about cars and engineering in general
- Self teaching certain things with videos
- Use my drafting class to dive deeper into the subject
- Drafting car parts and 3d renderings
- Created projects based on different types of cars (go karts, CO2 cars, etc)
- building/modifying remote control cars
- This was mostly done on my own either over summer or in some free time in the school
year
- I progressed from cheap rc cars from target to hobby grade cars that can go over 40mph
- I first used this knowledge on my physics final where me mad an extra car out of old
parts my partners had.

- This originally became an interest of mine after hearing about it more at school towards the end
of middle school
- I never even realized that it was something that I could really pursue until I began taking classes
related to it

- After taking some introductory courses to the subject the teachers I had classes with began to
recommend me for more advanced classes and ones more related to my interests

- Taking multiple classes related to engineering in general or more specific ones such as principles of flight,
woodworking, small engines, and all my drafting classes
