Request for Proposals for Ever’man Cooperative Grocery

Public Art Piece with Installation
Submission Deadline: August 15, 2019

Overview and History of Ever’man:

Ever’man Cooperative Grocery & Cafe was originally founded in Gulf Breeze in 1973 to
provide wholesome, nutritious food at a reasonable cost. Ever’man is an organization
founded on cooperative principles. We base decisions on the values of self-help, self-
responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity. In the tradition of our
founders, cooperative members believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social
responsibility and caring for others. Ever’man is governed by a Board of Directors,
elected by the members of the co-op.

Overview of the Public Art Project:

The Board of Directors has earmarked funds for public art pieces in honor of the
opening of the second Ever’man store. One piece will be installed at the new store
location on E. 9 Mile Road. In addition, a second piece will be placed at the downtown
store on Garden Street.
The art pieces requested can be functional/educational and/or inspirational that reflect
the Ends Statement of Ever’man as listed below:

Because of Ever’man, the community will have:

• Education about health, nutrition, and environmental issues.
• Access to healthy, natural foods and products at the lowest possible price.
• Support for Responsible, Local Agriculture and Small Business.
• An example of Green Business Practices.

The application deadline is 5:00pm (Central Standard Time), August 15,

2019.

Why an RFP?
The goal of this RFP process is to identify and decide on two exciting art pieces that are
equally rigorous aesthetically and socially.

These projects will demonstrate a clear commitment to a community, manifested by the

relationship of that community to the project's development process and to the project's
thematic focus. Our goal is to prove that when artists have the opportunity to explore
their own questions while working in communities (and not in isolation), they
contribute significantly to our shared landscape. We hope to make artists' role in
enabling and even accelerating social change more visible and more valued.

Eligibility criteria:

• Projects must be artist-led.

• Projects must demonstrate an understanding of the Ever’man Ends Statement.
• These funds are designated for one-time project support and cannot support
organizations' ongoing programs, operations, capital or endowments.
• Applicants can be at any stage of their careers, but must have a track record of
developed work that demonstrates their capacity to complete the proposed
project and to manage the level of funds requested.
