As you are aware, Wheelabrator thoroughly evaluated the feasibility of the site and determined
that it would have been suitable for this project. More importantly, the project would have
created significant and demonstrable environmental, financial and economic benefits to the
residents of the town and village including:
As much as $1 million annually in direct payments to the town and a significant revenue
stream for the village from the treatment of contact water.
As many as 15 full-time jobs and other positive economic impacts.
The elimination of 4,500 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year through a reduction
in long-haul truck trips from existing waste-to-energy facilities to more distant landfills.
A 90 percent reduction in waste volume.
The generation of clean, renewable energy through the waste-to-energy process.
We enjoy productive partnerships with the communities we serve – and play an active role in
the local communities we operate in, supporting and investing in civic and charitable
organizations, local schools and environmental causes, and contributing to increased
economic growth and enhanced quality of life. Our facilities decrease carbon emissions by
offsetting the need for energy from fossil fuel sources and reduce dependence on municipal
solid waste landfills.
While we stand by the conclusions of our technical evaluation to date that the site was capable
of meeting and exceeding state environmental requirements, we no longer wish to engage in
this project at this time. We appreciate your consideration and the efforts of the Greene County
Industrial Development Agency in working with our team and we wish the Catskill community
and its citizens all the best.
Sincerely,
Robert Boucher
