INSTALLATION
UNPACKING
Before beginning installation of your scale, make certain the instrument has been received in
good condition. When removing the scale from its packing, inspect it for signs of damage, such
as exterior dents and scratches. Keep the carton and packing material for return shipment if it
should become necessary. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to file all claims for any
damages or loss incurred during transit.

1. Remove the scale from the shipping carton and inspect it for any signs of damage.
2. Plug-in the 9VDC adapter or install the battery. Refer to the POWER SUPPLY or
BATTERY sections of this manual for more instruction.
3. Place the scale on a flat level surface, such as a table or bench.
4. The scale is now ready for use.

POWER SUPPLY
To apply power to the scale using a 9VDC, 100 mA power supply, insert the plug from the power
supply cable into the power jack on the back of the scale and then plug power supply into the
proper electrical outlet. The scale is now ready for operation.

DO NOT connect the plug-in power supply to


the scale with a battery installed in the scale.

BATTERY
The scale can use a "9V" size Alkaline battery (not included). If you wish to operate the scale
from a battery, you must first obtain and install the battery. The battery is contained in a holder
inside the scale. Access is via a removable panel on the right end of the bottom of the scale.

INSTALLING THE BATTERY


1. Turn the scale over so that the
display is facing down and place it
upside down on a flat level surface,
such as a table or bench.
2. Locate the battery door on the
bottom of the scale.
3. Remove the battery door by
pushing in on the "arrow" and
sliding the battery door in the
direction of the arrow.
4. Slide the battery door about 1/2
inch, lift and remove exposing the
battery snap connector.
5. Connect the snap connector to a 9
volt battery and place the battery in
the holder.
6. Place the battery door on the scale
and slide it the “opposite” direction
of the arrow until you hear it click
and lock in place.

LOW BATTERY
When the battery is near the point it needs to be replaced, a low battery indicator on the
display will turn on. If the battery voltage drops too low for accurate weighing, the scale will
automatically shut off and you will be unable to turn it back on. When the low battery indicator
is displayed, the operator should replace the battery or remove the battery and plug-in the
9VDC adapter.

DISPLAY AND KEY FUNCTIONS

KEY FUNCTIONS:

ON/ZERO/OFF
1. Press this key to turn the scale on.
2. Press this key and hold for 2 seconds to turn the scale off.
3. Press this key with the scale on to zero the scale.

Kg / Lb
1. Press this key to toggle between kg and lb:oz.
2. In normal mode, press and hold this key for 3 seconds to enter Setup mode.

MEMORY
1. When weight value is stable, press this key to store the value.
2. If the weight is under 1kg, press this key to recall the stored value of weight.
3. If the weight value is over 1kg, press this key to add to stored value of weight.
4. Press MEMORY key again to return to original value.
5. In normal mode, press and hold this key 3 seconds to enter Compensation mode.

FEATURES
HOLD
1. When the power is on, the HOLD feature will automatically switch on and the arrow
at left bottom of LCD will flash.
2. When the weight is greater than 1% of capacity and stable, the arrow stops flashing
and the display locks.
3. To disable hold function, press ON/ZERO/OFF key again, and the arrow
disappears.

To insure accurate measurement, place the baby’s head on the


cushion at either end of the scale. Refer to the illustration below.

CONFIGURATION
The Model 8450 Baby Scale has been pre-configured at the factory and should not require
configuration for use in most applications. In the event that the factory settings do not meet the
requirements of your application, the following describes the steps to configure the scale.

TO BEGIN CONFIGURATION:
1. Press the ON/ZERO/OFF key to turn on the scale.
2. Press and hold the Kg/Lb key for 3 seconds. When the display shows 6HW , release the
Kg/Lb key to enter the Configuration mode. The display will change to show 8QLW .

WEIGHING UNITS
To select “Kg” weighing units
1. With the display showing 8QLW , press the MEMORY key. The display will change to an
arrow ^ pointing to kg.
2. Press the MEMORY key to display kg status.
3. Press the Kg/Lb key to toggle between:
Enable (display will change to 2Q ) or
Disable (display will change to 2)) ).
4. Press the MEMORY key and then the Kg/Lb key 4 times. The display will change to
8QLW .
5. Proceed to AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF.

To select “Lb” weighing units:


1. With the display showing 8QLW , press the MEMORY key and then Kg/Lb key. The
display will change to an arrow ^ pointing to lb.
2. Press MEMORY key to display lb status.
3. Press the Kg/Lb key to toggle between:
Enable (display will change to 2Q ) or
Disable (display will change to 2)) ).
4. Press the MEMORY key and then the Kg/Lb key 3 times. The display will change to
8QLW .
5. Proceed to AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF.

To select “oz” weighing units:


1. With the display showing 8QLW , press the MEMORY key and then Kg / Lb key 2 times.
The display will change to an arrow ^ pointing to oz.
2. Press MEMORY key to display oz status.
3. Press the Kg/Lb key to toggle between:
Enable (display will change to 2Q ) or
Disable (display will change to 2)) ).
4. Press the MEMORY key and then the Kg/Lb key 2 times. The display will change to
8QLW .
5. Proceed to AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF.

To select “lb/oz” weighing units:
1. With the display showing 8QLW , press the MEMORY key and then Kg/Lb key 3 times.
The display will change to show arrows ^ ^ pointing to both lb and oz.
2. Press MEMORY key to display lb:oz status.
3. Press the Kg/Lb key to toggle between:
Enable (display will change to 2Q ) or
Disable (display will change to 2)) ).
4. Press the MEMORY key and then the Kg/Lb key. The display will change to 8QLW .
5. Proceed to AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF.

AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF
1. With the display showing 8QLW , press the press Kg/Lb key. The display will change to
show $2)) .
2. Press the MEMORY key to begin selection of the automatic shut-off time (in seconds).
The display will change to show  .
3. Press the Kg/Lb key to toggle through the selections, , , , , or 2)).
4. When the desired time is displayed, press the MEMORY key. The display will change to
show $2)) .
5. Proceed to CAPACITY.

CAPACITY
1. With the display showing $2)) , press the press Kg/Lb key. The display will change to
show &$3 .
2. Press the MEMORY key. The display will change to  with an arrow ^ pointing to kg.
3. Press the MEMORY key. The display will change to show &$3 .
4. Proceed to DIVISION VALUE.

DIVISION VALUE
1. With the display showing &$3 , press the press Kg/Lb key. The display will change to
show GLX6 .
2. Press the MEMORY key. The display will change to  with an arrow ^ pointing to kg.
3. Press the MEMORY key. The display will change to show GLX6 .
4. Proceed to GRAVITY COMPENSATION.

GRAVITY COMPENSATION
1. With the display showing GLX6 , press the press Kg/Lb key. The display will change to
show *U$X .
2. With the display showing *U$X :
To Enable the Gravity Compensation mode, press the MEMORY key. The display will
change to 2Q .
To Disable the Gravity Compensation mode, press the Kg/Lb key The display will
change to 2)) .
3. Press the MEMORY key again. The display will change to show *U$X .
4. Press the Kg/Lb key. The display will change to show (QG .
5. Press the MEMORY key to save the settings.
6. Setup is complete.

CALIBRATION
This scale was calibrated at the factory and should not require adjustment. In the event that the
scale should need recalibration, the following describes the Calibration of the Model 8450 Baby
Scale. A qualified technician should perform this function to maintain the instrument’s high
degree of accuracy.

Before beginning calibration, the following equipment is required:

20 Kg calibrated test weight

TO BEGIN CALIBRATION:
1. Press and hold the ON/ZERO/OFF key, then press the Kg/Lb key 3 times. Release the
ON/ZERO/OFF key to enter the Gravity Compensation mode. (Please see Note 1).
2. In Gravity Compensation mode, press the ON/ZERO/OFF key twice. The display will
change to show .
3. Press the ON/ZERO/OFF key again to enter the Calibration mode. (In the Calibration
mode, press the Kg/Lb key to select kg or lb).
4. Place the 20 kg calibrated test weight on the scale. The display will change to show the
span count (2000 ~ 20000). (Please see Table 1).
5. Press the ON/ZERO/OFF key. The display will change to show &$/ and then will
change to show 20.00 kg.
6. Remove the test weight.
7. Calibration is complete.

NOTE 1:
Gravity Compensation:
1. When the operator enables *U$X from the function setting of the Calibration mode,
the scale allows the operator to change the setting of gravity value as follows:
A. Press and hold the Kg / Lb key 3 seconds to enter Gravity Compensation mode,
the display will show 9.802 (the gravity value of New York).
B. Enter the desired gravity value (press Kg / Lb key to choose number from 0~9,
and press MEMORY key to move to right digit.
C. Press ON/ZERO/OFF key to confirm the entered gravity.) The scale will do
gravity compensation automatically.

2. If the operator disables *U$X from the function setting of the Calibration mode, the
scale will not allow the operator to re-calibrate the scale by simply changing the
setting of gravity value.
