Week Two - Research

RESEARCH

What did you learn from your I created a Survey Monkey to find out what people my age know
research? about short films and music videos. I also added questions about
their opinions on what they prefer. This can help me when
creating my project. A short film is any film not long enough to be
considered a feature film. No consensus exists as to where a
boundary is drawn. A music video is a short film or video that is
used to accompany a piece of music. Genre comes from the
French word for 'type'. It means different types of the same
medium for example short film. I also learnt the conventions of
the drama genre.

How has the research for your By researching things for the medium, I have been able to gather
medium helped you improve your a clearer vision of what to include in my production, studying
ideas? youtube videos I have found out that when filming a short film
some tips are: pre-production, equipment, communication,
flexibility and post production. I have found this youtube video
very helpful because it tells you many typical features used whilst
making a short film. Personally i have only made one short film
before and it wasnt that good so i dont have a lot of experience
with them. I also looked at tips on how to film a music video and
they were: Location, camera movement, frame rate, angles and
colour correction. I have found this youtube video very helpful
because it is all about very helpful tips to help you produce a
better and more professional production. Personally, i have
made 2 music videos before, the first one was terrible as i didnt
know what i was doing and the second one was better but still
needed lots of improvement.

How has the research for your genre Drama’s show real life situations with realistic characters, settings
helped you improve your ideas? and story lines. They portray journeys of character development
and include intense social interaction filled with climaxes to keep
the audience emotionally attached to the ongoing tension.
The purpose of a dramatic story line is to move the audience
emotionally, they do this through getting the audience to relate
to the characters, they usually including a happy ending. There
are many different types of sub-drama's that have all different
genres. Some examples of this are: Action, Adventure,
Animation, Comedy, Crime etc. This is done so that the drama
type of films can attract a wider audience, for example if one
person doesn't like action drama movies, it doesn't mean they
don't enjoy 'drama' as a whole, they may enjoy comedy drama.

How has researching the conventions I have looked at a distinction piece of work and gathered the
of your chosen genre helped you idea of how much work I have to do to achieve a distinction
understand what is required from you grade. Further, by looking at the conventions of a chosen genre
in order to meet a distinction grade? of drama, I have understood what I need to include in the
research and how much detail I need to add into each specific
convention to achieve a distinction grade.

How has including a variety of sources Primary research has helped me with my media/genre because I
(primary and secondary) helped with have received direct feedback and personal opinions about
your understanding of your medium / what I should include or improve with my production. I did a
genre? survey to receive the primary sources. Secondary research on
genre/medium helped me because I got previous examples to
give me a structure on how to do it.

What sources of information did you I researched two professionals who were called Rapman, and
look at that were different from your Dave. These are different two different sources compared to my
proposed project? proposed project, this is because Rapman has a different style of
dramas and he likes to include strong messages directed to the
youth. Dave is a rap artist and therefore different to my proposed
project.

How will this be useful to your Because it is good to understand other techniques that you
planning? develop from researching differences. You can then use this to
improve your own production.

How has the research for your For my content, I researched into basket ball and nike trainers.
content/topic helped you improve This helped me improve my ideas because I had a better
your ideas? understanding about the history of what my production is about.

How has the research into The research into artists and professionals helped me a lot
artists/producers helped you improve because I can use the same techniques they used to help make
your ideas? mine look as professional and high standard as possible for the
best outcome.

What work do you need to complete none

product you hope to make - and talk about how they inform your planning
● ‘sustained’ – continue your research throughout the eleven-week project and don’t just limit it to
the first two weeks
● ‘accomplished & considered’ – all of the above referred to in your daily/weekly reflections
