HOW TO BUILD VALUE

THROUGH VALUES

By pablo@pablonebreda.es
Based on Fred Kofman and Ken Wilber
1
Conscious business?
 Consciousness: is the capacity to be
aware of the outer and inner world,
and to choose; mentally perceptive,
awake, mindful.

 Business: occupation, work, trade,

commerce; serious, rigthful, proper
endeavor.

2
Conscious business!
 Conscious business:

engaging in an
occupation, work or
trade in a mindful
and awake fashion.

3
The 3 dimensions of business
 The personal self (I)
 Psychological and behavioral aspects. Health, happines,
and need for meaning of each stakeholder. Happy
people are much more productive. Critical!! No
engagement = no productivity.
 The interpersonal (we)
 Solidarity, trust and respect. To built a network of
collaborative relationships. Fundamental to long term
goals!!
 The impersonal task (it)
 Ability to achieve goals, fulfill a mission. Making money
today and tomorrow. Essential!!

4
Cause and effect
 Our attention is normally drawn to that
which we can see (the effect), which
obscures the importance of what remains
hidden (the cause).
 We focus on results (the having) and forget
the process (the doing) necessary to
achieve those results. We have less aware
of the infrastructure (the being) that
underlies processes and provides the
necessary capabilities for their functioning.

5
Being and becoming
 Achieving specific results requires behaving
in a way that produces such results, and
behaving in such a way requires being the
type of person or organization capable of
such behaviour.
 Thus, the highest leverage comes from
becoming the person or organization
capable of behaving in the way that
produces the desired results.

6
Being, doing, having

7
Be the change

“We must be the

change we
want to see in
the world”

3. Ontological Humility

9
Conscious employees
4. Authentic communication
 how to speak your truth, and elicit
others’ truths.
5. Constructive negotiation

6. Impeccable commitments – how to

10
Conscious employees

“The best way to do is to be”.

- Lao Tsu

7. Emotional mastery – how being,

rather than doing, is the ultimate
source of excellence.
11
Conscious employees

 Must have the necessary cognitive

power, knowledge and technical skills
to do the job.

 And also, to be productive, they need

to communicate, negotiate, and
coordinate in an effective way.

12
Conscious employees

 Conscious employees take responsibility for

their lives. They don’t compromise human
values for material success.
 They speak their truth and listen to other’s
truths with honesty and respect.
 They look for creative solutions to
disagreements and honor their
commitments impeccably. They are in
touch with their emotions and express
them productively.
13
Conscious leaders

 Leadership: is the process by which

a person sets a purpose for others
persons and motivates them to
pursue it with effectiveness and full
commitment.
 C. leader: transforms individual
potential into collective performance.

14
Conscious leaders

 Great leaders / managers:

 Earn the trust of their subordinates by
 Demonstrate the cognitive and technical
competence
 Show he/she can do his/her jobs, not the
subordinates’ jobs.
 Follow the 7qs of conscious business.
 And enact them in his/her subordinates
(creating a culture).

15
Conscious leaders

 Without trust and respect, followers

will rarely exert more than a minimal
effort in the pursuit of the goals set
by a leader.

16
It’s not easy!!

Awareness is not a one-time decision.

Staying conscious is an ongoing process that

demands constant attention and commitment.

It is not what you tell people, is the way you

leave your live.
