Rev 1.12 19 June 2003

General
The ADR-823 is a three-channel input/output analog control module that contains two
output circuits (NAC – Notification Alarm Circuit) and a single input circuit (IDC –
Initiating Device Circuit). This module is intended for use in cases where there is a need
for multiple output and input modules to carry out supervisory, alarm, and automatic
extinguishing functions.
The ADR-823 acts as an interface between an ADR-3000 analog control panel and
conventional warning, alarm, and activating devices such as horns, strobes, automatic
extinguishing devices, pressure switches, valves, and flow switches.
The ADR-823 controls two 2-wire output lines. The first, NAC-A, works as a "changed
polarity" and activates an additional dry-contact alarm relay. The other, NAC-B, works in
level activation mode. Each output has a separate address.
Additionally, the unit includes a two-wire input circuit (IDC) intended for connection to a
flow switch or alarm pushbutton as a separate address, or a supervisory pressure switch
sharing the same address as NAC-A.
The module is programmed to use between one and three consecutive addresses
according to the planned configuration. These addresses should be between 1 and 127
and are programmed by the PROG-4000 programmer.
The ADR-823 has four configurations that are set by jumpers on the card. The logic
properties and number of addresses are chosen accordingly.
The ADR-823 is controlled by and communicates with the control panel through an
analog SLC circuit and receives 24 VDC from the control panel or a local addressable
power supply such as Telefire's TPS-34A.
The module reports supervision status of the connected loads to the control panel. Load
circuit status is reported as open or shorted circuit.

Operating Modes
The module The ADR-823 can be configured to four different operating modes according
to the following jumper setting table:

Number of
Configuration JP7 JP8 NAC A NAC B IDC IDC Function addresses
A Off On First Second First Normally Closed 2
Address Address Address Supervisory Circuit
B On Off First Second First Normally Open 2
Address Address Address Supervisory Circuit
C Off Off First Not Not 1
Address Active Active
D On On First Second Third Fire / Flow Switch 3
Address Address Address Input

The supervisory circuit in configurations A and B is intended for supervision of pressure

switches of extinguishing cylinders, valves, and other switches. Trouble display for the
IDC line will show as the shared address of NAC-A.
The ADR-823 has a status LED that can be latched on and be returned to the normal
mode by code command from the panel.

Its addresses should be programmed prior to installation, by the PROG-4000 (please

refer to the PROG-4000 technical manual).

Compatibility Requirements
The ADR-823 should be connected only to Telefire's ADR-3000 addressable control
panel.

Mounting the ADR-823 in an AIB-800 Box

Follow these instructions if mounting the ADR-823 in an AIB-800 Analog Input / Output
Module Box.
Mount the AIB-800 on a clean firm surface.
There are three mounting screw holes in the AIB-800 enclosure's base.
1. Mark the holes on the mounting surface according to figure 5.
2. Drill the appropriate holes.
3. Open the appropriate wiring knockout opening.
4. Screw the enclosure back to the surface.
5. Install the ADR-823 in the AIB-800 box.
6. Connect wiring according to instructions (see below).
7. Close the cover and tighten two screws through two holes under
the knockout holes.
8. Write the appropriate addresses on the label on the back of the
AIB-800.

Wiring
Note Notify the operator or the security personnel that the system will be temporary
disconnected before adding an ADR-823 to an existing system. Disconnect all
power sources (mains and battery) before adding devices to an existing system.
Use an anti-static ground wrist strap when handling any system circuits, to prevent static
discharge to the modules.
Connect all wires according to marked polarity.
All wiring must conform to applicable local codes, ordinances and regulations.

Refer to the ADR-3000 Technical Manual for further details.

Install module wiring in accordance with the job drawings and wiring diagram as
appropriate (Fig. 1-4).
1. Connect the SLC loop wire to JP5 according to marked polarity.
2. Connect the 24VDC from the power source to JP2.
3. Connect extinguisher to NAC-A (JP3) according to marked polarity.
4. Connect notification device to NAC-B (JP6) according to marked polarity.
5. Connect the 5.1 K Ω (End of Line) resistor to the end of the NAC circuit.
6. Connect the IDC input to IDC (JP9). Connect the switch according to the operating
mode. Maximum wiring length 1.0 m.
7. Connect the relay dry contacts to ALARM/RL/1 (JP4) and ALARM/RL/2 (JP10) if
required. This relay is activated by NAC-A. Do not apply a circuit above 48.0 VDC
on the relay.

Indicating LEDs
The red LED (LD1) continually flickers on each system communication request to one of
the addresses of the module. At alarm mode of one of the IDC circuits, the LED will
latch on.
The yellow LED (LD2) will flicker whenever a trouble mode occurs such as IDC short
circuit, low 24V input voltage, or open circuit. The control panel will display the relevant
trouble event.

TROUBLESHOOTING
The following table shows trouble events that may be displayed on the ADR-3000
control panel's screen, relevant to the ADR-823 monitor module.
