INTRODUCTION TO THE STANDING VALVE

The prime criteria for the development of this tool was to

significantly reduce the number of wireline runs required
during the completion of a well.

The Retractable No-Go Standing Valve provides a high

pressure test capability with a single wireline run. The
standing valve can be used both in Petroline’s QN nipple
profiles and in other manufacturer’s profiles.

The valve features:

* 5,000 to 10,000 psi pressure ratings as standard.

* Single run to set and retrieve.

* Hydraulic set capability (no downward jarring required

for high deviation wells).

* Not reliant on operator ability.

* Flow through capability.

The Standing Valve is designed to be set in the nipple

profile by hydraulic means, and no downward jarring is
required. The tool is therefore ideal for high deviation
applications and has been successfully run in wells up to 79
degrees deviation.

The equalisation section can be provided with a spring &

ball retainer to ensure a positive seat of the sealing ball if
required.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS FOR RNQN STANDING VALVE

Ref. Assy. Dwg. A625-9999-014
General Instructions
Ensure all parts are clean.
Apply copperslip to all threads.
Apply grease to all sealing surfaces.
Do not wrench on No-Go finger area.
Back off all shear screws by a quarter turn.
Fig :- 001
Assembly Instructions
- Install Elastomer/s (Items 10 and 11) into the Lock Down Collet (Item 06) then slide Lock Down
Collet into the Plunger (Item 02), secure by installing required number of Shear Screws (Item 15).

- With the box thread facing upwards, install the Lock Out Keys (Item 04) into the windows on the
Main Body (Item 03). NB: A small amount of grease on the Keys will help retain them in the
windows. Ensure Keys are fitted the correct way round with the 30 internal taper face matching
30 taper on the Plunger assembly. See Fig :-001.

- Place the Plunger Assembly (Plunger first) down into the Main Body and lift the Body until it
bottoms out on the inner assembly. The shear screw holes should be lined up with the track, then
install the required number of the Shear Screws (Item 14).

- Insert Elastomer (Item 12) into the Plunger. Make-up the Sub-Assy (Item 01) to the Plunger
utilising a screw driver through the equalising ports, and then secure with Grub Screw.

- Slide the Finger Sleeve (Item 05) down into the Main Body until the shear screw holes line up with
the groove. Install Shear Screws (Item 13).

- Install the Packing Stack (Items 18, 16 and 17) respectively, onto the Packing Barrel (Item 07).
Thread the Packing Barrel into the Main Body and secure with Grub Screw (Item 09).

- Thread the Bottom Sub (Item 08) onto the Packing Barrel and secure with Grub Screw (Item 09).

Disassembly Instruction
- Remove all Grub Screws.

- Remove Bottom Sub and using the lead in angle on the lower end push against the Packing Barrel
end face to hence collapse the internal fingers of the Lock Down Collet back inside the Body.

- The remainder of the tool should be disassembled opposite to the assembly instructions.

- All parts should be inspected for damage and replaced as necessary

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS FOR STANDING VALVE

SUB ASSEMBLY
Ref. Assy. Dwg. A218-2000-005

General Instructions
Ensure all parts are clean.
Apply copperslip to all threads.
Apply grease to all sealing surfaces.
Back off all shear screws by a quarter turn.

Assembly Instructions
- Install Elastomer/s (Item 06) into the Connector (Item 03) and Shear Sleeve (Item 04)
respectively. Slide the Shear Sleeve onto the Inner Mandrel (Item 02).

- Thread the Inner Mandrel onto the Connector. NB. The notch on the Connector OD should be
covered when the Inner Sleeve is fully made up. If this notch is visible continue threading until
it disappears under the Shear Sleeve, secure with Grub Screw (Item 07).

- Slide the Shear Sleeve down over the Connector until it locates on the square shoulder, install
Shear Screw (Item 08)

- Install Elastomer/s (Item 06) into the Ball Seat (Item 05). Install Steel Ball (Item 09) into the
Top Sub (Item 01). Thread the Top Sub onto the Shear Sleeve. This will automatically locate the
Steel Ball & Ball Seat in the correct position. Install Grub Screw (Item 07).

- The Standing Valve Sub Assembly can now be made up to the Main Assembly.

Disassembly Instructions

RUNNING/PULLING PROCEDURES FOR PETROLINE

RETRACTABLE NO-GO STANDING VALVES

The Petroline Retractable No-Go Standing Valve is run using standard wireline methods and can be
set either mechanically or hydraulically.

When setting the Retractable No-Go Standing Valve mechanically, make-up the Standing Valve to
the appropriate JDC or SB type Pulling Tool complete with brass pin. Lower the assembly into the
well bore until the No-Go Fingers on the Standing Valve make contact with the No-Go on the
Nipple Profile.

Downward jarring will cause the Shear Screws to shear and in turn will move the Inner Mandrel
down locking out the Locking Dogs and remove the support from the Retractable No-Go Fingers.
Further downward jarring will cause the Shear Pin in the Pulling Tool to shear. The toolstring can
now be retrieved from the wellbore.

When retrieving the Retractable No-Go Standing Valve lower the toolstring complete with the
appropriate JDC or SB type Pulling Tool into the wellbore and latch the Retractable No-Go Standing
Valve (an upward pull on the wireline will confirm latching).

Upward jarring will cause the equalisation screws and Inner Mandrel screws to shear and the
Standing Valve can now be retrieved from the wellbore.

If pressure testing is required in one run without shearing thr setting tool we recommend that the
Standing Valve is set hydraulically as follows:

Lower the Standing Valve in the wellbore, this should be done at a relatively steady
speed and care should be taken when passing through restrictions or when opening
the Spang Jars to prevent premature equalisation.

Once the Nipple is encountered 1 or 2 light downward taps should be applied to ensure the seals
have entered the seal bore then pressure can be applied.

1. If you require to stay on the device slack off 10· of wire approximately and apply the
Nominal Shear Out value of the Valve. Monitor the pressure for a few minutes then increase
up to the required test level. When the Standing Valve sets a slight reduction in pressure will
be seen at surface. On completion of test, jar upwards to equalise and unlock the Standing
Valve which can then be retrieved to surface.

RUNNING/PULLING PROCEDURES FOR PETROLINE

RETRACTABLE NO-GO STANDING VALVES

2. If you require to leave the Standing Valve in the Nipple slack off 10· wire apply the Nominal
Shear Out value of the Valve. Monitor the pressure for a few minutes then commence to jar
downwards, if during jarring the Valve is accidentally equalised pressure will be lost.

Monitor at all times when setting and if pressure does drop attempt to apply again. If indications are
that the Valve has been equalised jar up to retrieve.

NB: If pressure is lost cease downward jarring immediately, this may be in time to
prevent release of the running tool and will save unneeded wireline runs to
retrieve and reinstall the Valve.
