Physical activity has been shown to be very effective for reducing many health risk factors. It is
important to realize that your behaviors influence your health. Many Americans suffer hypokinetic
diseases that could be prevented, and even treated, by engaging in regular physical activity. In today’s
lesson you will participate in a number of activity stations that relate to reducing some common
hypokinetic diseases. Can you connect the activities to the diseases?

Instructions
In addition to completing a RPE scale and identifying your feelings about each activity, identify what
disease risks are reduced by participating in the activity stations. Choose diseases or conditions from the
following list and place them in the box corresponding with the activity that reduces the risk of that
disease.

Reflection Activity
Create an activity station that would address one of these disease risks. Provide a detailed description of
the activity and identify the disease risk it would address.
I would create a squat station where you could perform 15 squat jumps at a slow pace, rest, and then perfor
m the squats faster, rest, and go back to the slower pace. I think this station would help with osteoporosis an
d bone denisity because it involves jumping up and landing back on your feet, which improves bone strength
 and makes them less brittle. This also might help with back problems by keeping your back straight and leve
l throughout the activity.
