DRIGGERS DAYS
Supporting Bible Translation through Youth Ministry
Twenty-one days.
God.’ ”
Our goal for this workshop is to finish advisor checking the -MARK 10:27 NLT
book of Luke.
Over the past two years, a good day has been when we finish 10-15 verses in one day. It's been a slow,
laborious, and often quite painful process. Checking each word, each phrase, each item of punctuation;
sometimes making minor changes and sometimes re-writing a verse or passage one, two, or even four times
until we all agree that it conveys the meaning of the original.
In order to accomplish this goal, we ideally need to finish 20 to 25 verses every day. An amount significantly
higher than our normal.
What happens if we don't meet the goal? Honestly, I don't know. God doesn't see the limitations of time,
energy, brain fog, pain, miscommunication, confusion, frustration, disunity, etc. in the same way we do. They
do not intimidate Him because He knows the difference between our impossible and His possible.
So we have a God-sized goal. One that is so much bigger than what I can imagine us accomplishing that the
only explanation will be God. And yet, I do believe God can do the impossible. I do believe He can
accomplish this goal. I don't know if that's His plan because while we can set big goals, and make big plans,
in the end, we don't see the big picture. God does. He knows whether our plans match His, whether our goals
are in line with His.
This work is surrounded by a fierce spiritual battle. I have felt the intense weight of that battle even today.
Just as we cannot accomplish this goal without God, we cannot accomplish this goal without prayer.
Twenty-five verses a day, day after day after day, is not an easy task.
This task is bigger than me. It's bigger than you. Together, with God, it is possible.
Today is Good Friday. The day we commemorate Christ’s crucification. We try to imagine the confusion and
heartbreak the disciples must have felt on this day. Utter hopelessness? Complete defeat? Unfathomable
grief? Unimaginable confusion? Yes, yes, yes, yes and more. They were emotionally, physically and spiritually
at a crossroads they didn’t understand. Sunday was coming, but they were unaware.
We find our family at a crossroads once again, approaching the end of our furlough. We praise the Lord that
Sara’s first surgery is complete and the pathology was benign! Her second surgery is scheduled for May 1,
more than six weeks quicker than originally planned. Marty will complete his Advanced Theology class this
week. Tia will graduate from Liberty University on May 11. Jade will complete her school year on May 31.
Marty’s has his Papua New Guinean work permit and we are waiting for approval from the PNG government
for his new visa. The lease on our furlough home and car are very soon reaching their expirations. Everything
is aligning for our return. Except for our finances. We have the immediate need for an additional $2300 a
month in partnerships. Wycliffe will not allow us to return until we are meeting our monthly budget. It seems
impossible. Do you want to be a part of this impossible?
Thank you for your prayers for our family and Wycliffe ministry and for the entire work of Bible translation. Just
like Susie said “we cannot accomplish this goal without prayer.” We have an incredible partnership team! This
furlough has been about strengthening our family and our team so that God can continue to work through us
all to accomplish His will.
We are embarking on a 40 day prayer and fast beginning April 22 (our 24th wedding anniversary) and ending
June 1. We invite you to pray and fast with us for the completion of our partnership team during this time. It
seems impossible.
“What do you mean, ‘If I can?’ Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” Mark 9:23 NLT
