II. Major Areas of the Movie for Consideration

The Data Gathering Technique that should be used in the study:

 Residents/informants where the data and information should come from was
been fooled to believed false data by PG&E Plant.
 Time frame
 Data that are needed during the study were all been removed by PG&E Plant.
III. Analysis and Discussion
a. Erin Brockovich as a researcher contain qualities such as being creative,
resourceful, patient, logical, skeptic and honest. Also, as e watched the film, we
found out other qualities Erin have, like being persistent, she has a good
companionship, dedication because when she start something, even if it is hard,
she will do her best to finished it whatever it takes. She also has a good
communication with people. Having a persuasion in terms of making her
interviewee to speak out the truth about what they feel, and what they want to tell
or express. She’s also a very frank person which really helps her to solve the issue
about misinterpretation about the topic, because she wanted to tell everyone the
right thing about her research.
b.

Research Dilemma:

Why were there irrelevant file (medical records) submitted to them on the
affidavit of Donna Jensen, where in the company concern is about Real Estate?

Research Problem:

How medical documents does affects the PG&E Plant, where in Real Estate is
their concern?

Research Objectives:

 To be able to explain why there are medical documents in Donna

Jensen’s Report.
 To determine the real problem between people of Hinkley vs. the PG&E.
 To be able to give help to people of Hinkley about PG&E’s
unsatisfactory services that should be accounted to them from the year
1978-2000.

Research Design:

Erin Brockovich study was in Exploratory Design. The study’s scope was to be
able to find out what effects did the PG&E caused them and how will they find
answers about it, and the effects of the chemicals that have been worsen the condition
of the people like chromium hexavelant. The subject of the study was the people of
Hinkley (the residents of the area). The sampling strategy that has been used was
Interview.
Process and Analysis of the Data

At first, she research about what is being stated in the file case in their office, and
then she asked permission for further study. She asked questions and interview the
filer of the case-Donna Jensen. She collected data from Lohantan Regional Water
Board based from what the professor of UCLA told her. Then she conducted again an
interview in the area. It acts like a cycle (a continuous process to make).

Erin Brockovich, uses the Experience Survey where in ideas of the person
interviewed are included, FGD to asked the questions but they don’t feel the pressure
of the interview. Also the time frame of the study was long (18 months), it only have
specific sample (people of Hinkley). Its Research Environment was in field setting.

c.

They made the PG&E pay for their unsatisfactory services. The research became
successful. Yes, they reached their objectives.

d.

The major recommendation is to go on with the case. Ed’s contention is to refer to

what happened in the Love Canal and to look at where those people stand now. It was
articulated near the ending.
