AIMS:  leading the students into topic

o match the idioms to their meaning

- Students must have a satisfactory level of English;

- If students do not understand the oral commands or the tasks, they will be
translated into Romanian.

STAGES:
I. WARM-UP

Aims:  to create a pleasant atmosphere and to relax.


Interaction: teacher – students
Procedure: The teacher greets the pupils. The pupil on duty tells the
absents; the teacher writes the absents in the roll; then the teacher checks their
homework.
Timing: 3 minutes

Activity 1: Frontal and individual activity

Aims:  to prepare for the main activity


 to have a guided dialogue
 to revise the vocabulary related to sports

Interaction: teacher-students; students-teacher

Procedure: Teacher shows students a short Power Point presentation about


sports and the Olympic Games.
Timing: 5 minutes
II. LEAD IN
Activity 2: Transition to the new lesson

Aims:  to prepare the students for the new lesson


 to revise and practice vocabulary related to sports
Interaction: teacher-students

Procedure: Teacher asks the students questions on ex.1, page 114.


Students answer the teacher’s questions.
Timing: 5 minutes

Activity 3: Introducing the lesson

Aims:  to get students into the new topic


 to practice the students speaking and listening skills
Interaction: teacher-students

Procedure: Teacher asks the students to read the text in order to fill in the
blanks. Students read the text and fill in the blanks with the suitable words or
phrases.

Timing: 10 minutes
III. PRACTICE
Activity 4: Complete the chart

Aims:  consolidation
 to give students confidence in their ability to use the English
language
Interaction: teacher – students, students - students
Procedure: Teacher asks the students to complete the chart for the modern
games. Students read and perform the task.
Timing: 5 minutes

IV. CONTROLLED PRACTICE


Activity 5: Group work
Aims:  to practice their speaking and writing skills
 to build confidence
 to practice and consolidate the target language by expressing
themselves
 to enable the Sts to use expressions such as “As far as….is
concerned…/ Personally, I tend to think…....”
Interaction: students – students
Procedure: Teacher asks the students to read the useful language and
perform the task on ex.V/114, working in groups, one of them being the
chairperson. Also, teacher asks the students to read the Info Box. Students perform
the task.
Timing: 12 minutes

V. FEED-BACK

Aims:  to consolidate vocabulary related to sports


 to match the idioms to their meaning:

Interaction: teacher – students


Procedure: The teacher gives the students handouts with a text and then she
asks the students to read the text from the handout (Appendix 1) .
Timing: 5 minutes

VI. HOMEWORK ASSIGMENT

Aims:  to consolidate and use the acquired vocabulary structures by


working at home
 to develop their writing skill in English
Interaction: teacher – students
Procedure: Teacher announces the homework and explain the students what
they have to do for the next English Class: Write a short composition about your
favourite Olympic champion.
Timing: 3 minutes
VII. EVALUATION

Aims:  to increase students` self-confidence and encourage them in their


study of English
Interaction: teacher – students
Procedure: Teacher appreciates students’ activity both verbally - praising
their activity - and by giving marks.
Timing: 2 minutes
