Facilities and handling Good for high-value, Lower facility costs because of aggregation. Some saving on
handling costs is high.

Information Information flow is haling via internet trailer collect orders. Due to too much technical
data collecting bit long process. Time wastage is high.

Response time Response time may vary by product. In average response time higher.
Product variety They have long range of suppliers and manufactures. Sometime same product few
manufactures then variety is high. though website customer can view all the details.
Product availability Product availability is high. manufacture is maintaining to maintain inventory.
Customer experience Product is technical. Supplier bargaining power little higher.
Returnability Returnability high. If any quality failure retailer attending fast.

select products.

items are in the FMCG category moment is fast.
Transportation Lower transportation costs when compared to manufacturer storage because warehouses
are physically closer to Customers. Package carriers are used to transport items from the
retailer to the customer
Facilities and handling Facility costs are higher with respect to direct shipping

manufacturer storage.

Response time Better for medium to fast moving items. Better response time when compared to
manufacturer storage.
Product variety Distributor storage can handle somewhat lower variety than manufacturer storage but
it is better than a chain of retailers.

Product availability Lower than manufacturer storage because availability depend on storage capacity of
retailor or distributor of Nestle company. Extra investment is needed for larger
availability of retailors
Customer experience Better customer experience than manufacturer storage with drop-shipping. Because
retailors located to nearly to the customers.
Returnability Easier than manufacturer storage customer can return to directly to retailors or
distributors.

fast to justify the infrastructure.

Product availability Lower than other options except retail stores. Extra investment is needed for larger
availability for distributors

delivery is possible for items stored at cross doc site. When customer alert about order can
pick up the same day from both example companies Dambulu and Vogue.

Product availability Similar to other manufacturer or distributor storage options.
Customer Lower than other options due to absence of home delivery. Discrepancy is less if pickup
experience points are dense. Both companies Vogue and Dambulu customers satisfied with the products
Returnability Easy if pickup points can handle returns.
Order visibility Essentially required but difficult

Cost Factor Performance


Inventory Inventory costs are low due to appropriate aggregation. Inventory is stored at the
manufacturer or distributor warehouse (cross dock). As example Vogue jewelers and
Dambulu furniture store their products their own cross docks/ outlets. customer place orders
and come to designated pickup points to collect their orders.
Transportation Transportation costs are low due to appropriate aggregation. Customers come and pick up
their orders of furniture from manufacturer( Dambulu Furniture)
Facilities and Can be very high if new facilities have to be built. The increase in the handling cost at the
handling pickup site can be large. Normally Dambulu furniture has large physical stores and vogue
located their stores within main cities with high class customer background.
Information Significant amount of information and high investment is required due customized product

transportation need special vehicle and host is high.
Facilities and handling Higher than other options. Insurance / security/ maintain, rental cost is incurred because
showrooms of Toyota, Singer located within the main cities.
Information High investment is required for online and phone orders

Service Factor Performance


Response time Response time high due to long transaction process. if good available same day pick is possible
Product variety Lower than all other option. Because of limited suppliers.
Product availability Very expensive to provide high levels, but both companies spending money on this to avoid
high competition.
Time to market Highest among the other option. Specially Toyota Lanka.
Returnability Easy if pickup points can handle returns
