Introduction

Congratulations on your purchase of the Manila Gear Apple II​GS​ VGA Adapter!

With this adapter, you now have the capability to use your Apple II​GS​ on modern VGA monitors
that support 15kHz.

Checking System Requirements

You need to verify that your system meets the following requirements:

● Apple II​GS​ ROM 00, ROM 01, or ROM 3


● ProDOS 8 (to run the ​Apple II​GS​ VGA Adapter Video Test ​program and other software)
● ​ S​ VGA Adapter
Ability to transfer a disk image to a real Apple II (to run the ​Apple IIG
Video Test ​program and other software)
● VGA Monitor that supports 15kHz

2. Installing the Apple II​GS​ VGA Adapter

Installing the adapter in your system is simple. Please follow the instructions carefully.

Step 2.1. Before installing the Apple II​GS​ VGA Adapter in your Apple II​GS​, make sure to switch
your Apple II​GS​ main power switch to the OFF position.

Step 2.2. Insert the X1 connector of the Apple II​GS​ VGA Adapter into the RGB monitor port of
the Apple II​GS​.

Step 2.3. Plug your monitor’s VGA cable to the X2 connector of the Apple II​GS​ VGA Adapter.

Step 2.4. Switch on your Apple II​GS​ and you are all set!

You may want to run the ​Apple II​GS​ VGA Adapter Video Test Program​ to confirm that everything
was setup correctly. Refer to [​Appendix B​] for information on where to get the software.

What monitor can I use with this adapter?

Any VGA monitor that supports 15kHz should work. These are the monitors that have been
tested and known to work:

Benq BL702A
Samsung SyncMaster 510N
Samsung SyncMaster 512N
Samsung SyncMaster 710N
Samsung SyncMaster 712N
Samsung SyncMaster 910N
Samsung SyncMaster 912N

The image on my Samsung SyncMaster looks taller than it is wider. Can I adjust this?

Yes.

Use the monitor’s front panel buttons to adjust what’s called “Coarse” setting… it will let you
widen the image. You can then adjust H-Position to center it back on the screen.

We’ve found that a Coarse setting of 860, and an H-Position setting of 73 works best for us.
